- Reposted by Hugh JacksonThe only way Labour can win the next election is by governing well. That might not be enough, but it’s the bare minimum. The questions to be asking about any potential new PM are “what is their agenda and can they achieve it?” Not “do they currently poll well?” Or “can they handle a media round?”

- Reposted by Hugh JacksonTrump's constant degradation of female reporters is unsurprising but the press corps' collective decision to treat it as background noise is actually kind of sickening
- Reposted by Hugh JacksonInstead of conferring titles, gongs and baubles and then demanding those titles, gongs and baubles be removed… …perhaps as a modern, mature polity we should have far fewer titles, gongs and baubles in the first place.
- Reposted by Hugh JacksonI just reread a Ta-Nehisi Coates piece from 2018 where he addresses the claim that Trump is too incoherent to have an ideology and responds, no, he clearly has an ideology and it’s white nationalism. It’s only got clearer since then yet some people still insist otherwise

- Reposted by Hugh JacksonWeird and almost universal revisionism today. Even at the time, it was pretty clear that Mandelson wasn't appointed *despite* his dodgy links but *because* of them. Trump's Washington is a dirty swamp. Mandelson was deemed a man able to swim in it. This wasn't a secret. Everybody said it out loud.
- Reposted by Hugh JacksonWell, I would criticise Lord Mandelson, but two and a half years ago, a UK government official emailed me to tell me that I can't criticize government officials on social media, for a period going back five years. So. I have to wait a bit. (You think I'm kidding. The UK government told me that)

- Reposted by Hugh JacksonExactly. If Europe wanted to stop the terror, push Russia out of Ukraine and make sure Russia is pacified it could do so with a stroke of a pen. It is all about political will. The resources to win are available in abundance.

- Reposted by Hugh JacksonI get tired of saying it, but I’ll say it again: the nature of oppression in America is that they workshop it first on Black, Latino, Asian & Native people. But it is always, in the end, coming for everyone.
- Reposted by Hugh Jacksonyou can literally travel to Mongolia, take a taxi from Ulaanbaatar to Choirin, find the last house in the outskirt, and ask Munkhbat who's about fifty or eighty, no one knows for sure, he spent his entire life drinking and throwing rocks at passing cars, he would say "Peter Mandelson? He's a c*nt."
