- Reposted by SquidCatone of the reasons ao3 is a not-for-profit entity is BECAUSE it's derivative work based off of someone else's intellectual property! many legal issues come in when you try to monetize fanfiction without removing references to un-owned IP, and it's why having a protected space like ao3 is so valuable
