COMBINE MARV Project
Towards Improved Pandemic Preparedness - Advancing Our Understanding of Virus Cell Entry Using Marburg Virus as a Model
- 🌍 27 December marked the International Day of Epidemic Preparedness! 🦠 COMBINE is committed to strengthening Europe’s ability to respond to emerging and re-emerging viral diseases. Learn more on our website 🔗 combine-marv.eu/project/impact
- ❄️ Season’s greetings from the COMBINE team! As our first project year comes to an end, we want to thank all partners and supportors for their contributions to our shared mission – strengthening Europe’s #PandemicPreparedness. Wishing you a restful holiday season and a healthy & inspiring 2026!
- 🦠 Emerging viruses demand fast, coordinated responses. COMBINE strives to create a versatile pipeline to support quick, effective collaboration across countries. Learn more about how we want to reach this goal 🔗 combine-marv.eu/project/obje... #combineMARV #PandemicPreparedness #MarburgVirus
- 🌍 It’s #OneHealth Day! Did you know human, animal & environmental health are deeply interconnected? An insightful historical example is the origin story of #MarburgVirus. The first outbreak in 1967 showed how zoonotic diseases can cross borders fast. #combineMARV #Zoonosis #PandemicPreparedness
- 🌍 Join us at the @defender-project.bsky.social International Symposium for a keynote by our #combineMARV coordinator @christian-7.bsky.social! 🎟️ Register free of charge for a day of insights, collaboration & global exchange 🔗 lnkd.in/eY9JwzXY #PandemicPreparedness #Collaboration #EUfunded
- 📢 Postdoctoral opportunity! Join the #combineMARV project at the University of Oslo to study host–virus interactions using proteomics and mass spectrometry. 🧬 3-year #postdoc position ⏰ Apply by 6 Nov 2025 🔗 www.jobbnorge.no/en/available... #Proteomics #Virology #PandemicPreparedness #EUfunded
- 🦠 Ever wondered how viruses communicate with our cells? Our coordinator @christian-7.bsky.social gave a science talk: “Small talk with consequences – Communication between virus and cell”. 🖥️ The recording in German is now online: www.youtube.com/live/xBz-kAh... 📸 ©phaeno/Andreas Rudolph
- 📆 Interesting event for German speakers❗ Join our coordinator @christian-7.bsky.social at his science talk! 📍 phaeno Science Theatre & Online 🗓 18 September | 18:30 🔗 Learn more: lnkd.in/emnVeBVZ 🖥️ Livestream: lnkd.in/e5DkKcQe #combineMARV #Marburgvirus #pandemicpreparedness #science
- 🦠 What do Influenza, Rabies, Ebola and Marburg virus have in common? 💡 They are all zoonoses! We want to take #WorldZoonosesDay as an opportunity to promote understanding of the key terms when talking about zoonotic diseases. #combineMARV #Zoonosis #PandemicPreparedness #MarburgVirus
- 🖥️ Meet Laura Zernickow 🤝 Laura is a Communications Manager at EURICE – European Research and Project Office GmbH.
- 🗣️❔ Always wanted to have a conversation with a scientist? 💡 Take the chance & talk one-to-one with @christian-7.bsky.social at Salon der Wissenschaft (Salon of Science) in Braunschweig. Register (free of charge) 🔗 www.salonderwissenschaft.de/en/ #combineMARV #pandemicpreparedness #science
- 🧪 Meet Costin-Ioan Popescu 🤝 In COMBINE his team at the Institute of Biochemistry of the Romanian Academy will use their expertise to develop vaccine candidates formulation and support the host-pathogen interaction studies.
- 🔬 Meet Erdinc Sezgin 🤝 @sciezgin.bsky.social is leading CSI:Nano Lab located at @ki.se. In COMBINE his team will focus on the biophysics of host-pathogen interactions by using advanced imaging tools and synthetic biology.
- 🦠 Meet Lennart Martens 🤝 Lennart is leading the Computational Omics and Systems Biology (CompOmics) group at @viblifesciences.bsky.social.
- 🔬 Meet Tuula Nyman 🤝 Tuula is leading the research group Proteomics at the University of Oslo. In COMBINE her team will perform advanced proteomic analysis of MARV-infected host cell samples to identify signalling cascades activated by MARV-cell binding.
- 🧪 Meet Nadine Biedenkopf 🤝 @biedenkopflab.bsky.social is a junior group leader at the Institute of Virology at the @unimarburg.bsky.social.
- 📢 New findings help scientists understand how viruses enter host cells in unprecedented detail! 💬 “The methodology we have developed to investigate the virus entry process can be applied to many other viruses,” says @christian-7.bsky.social. 👀 Check out the article: shorturl.at/UJFRM
- 🦠Meet Christian Sieben 🤝 @christian-7.bsky.social is our project coordinator in COMBINE and leading a young research group at @helmholtzhzi.bsky.social, Germany's largest state research institution addressing global challenges in infectious diseases.
- In COMBINE three groups from HZI are contributing to different work packages of the project. 1️⃣ identification of proteins within the virus host interface, 2️⃣ screening of antivirally active small molecules, 3️⃣ cell biology of virus infection.
