Past-President of the Canadian Medical Association
World Medical Association Representative for Canada
Public Health Physician
Passionate about physician wellness and public health
- Eye-opening stats from the recent CFIB/CMA survey on physician paperwork. We were already feeling it, and now we have the stats to back it up. Patients deserve our full attention, and doctors deserve a healthy work/life balance. Let’s move forward with the solutions we know can make that happen.
- Artificial intelligence is part of our reality. As health care professionals, it can make a positive impact on our workload, administrative burden and rates of burnout – but it is also our responsibility to ensure we’re integrating it properly.
- Alberta’s proposed private care plan will not reduce wait times. It will worsen them. The evidence is consistent in Canada and abroad: parallel public–private systems lead to poorer outcomes and longer waits, with many patients paying twice for care.
- So pleased to represent physicians in conversation with Canada's Minister of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Innovation @evansolomon.bsky.social and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Industry Karim Bardeesy .
- So sad & angry about this. Sad for a family who was just trying to make the best decisions they could. This profound grief didn't need to happen. Angry because whether for money, influence or political gain people are still spreading disinformation that is killing children www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...
- Profound health inequities persist in Canada. We need to work together in humility to build a health system that upholds Indigenous rights with the goal of eliminating these inequities. I encourage you to spend some time observing #NDTR reflecting on your own reconciliation journey in the year ahead

- There is no link between Tylenol use in pregnancy and autism. This lie is leading women to feel unnecessary guilt. Pregnant people deserve to have their pain recognized and treated. Fever in pregnancy is dangerous and Tylenol is the safest fever medication www.instagram.com/reel/DPCiTu1...
- 71% of people are trying to eat more protein, with no clear evidence that they need it. Almost no one talks about trying to increase their fibre intake, which is directly linked to lowered risk for colon cancer. The More Protein, the Better? www.nytimes.com/2025/04/09/w...

- Vaccines do not cause autism Turbo cancer is not real Sunscreen does not cause cancer Seed oils are not bad for you Doctors are not hiding cures from you These and so many other lies are hurting Canadians. As physicians and scientists, we need to stand up for science #sciencematters
- Throughout my career, I’ve seen how science has shaped safer, more effective care for patients. But I’ve also seen how misinformation can cause real harm. We all share a responsibility to defend science and safeguard public trust. #ScienceMatters
- Medical education should reflect the people it serves. With accreditation now fully sovereign, Canada is safeguarding equity, diversity and inclusion in how we train future physicians. A proud step forward for our learners and communities. #MedEd
- Getting Healthy contest: few days left! Whether or not there is a contest, I'm still here to encourage you to get healthy this summer Did you know? A new study found that 15 min/day of fast walking ⬇️ mortality by 20%! Imagine if a drug produced results like that DOI: 10.1016/j.amepre.2025.107738
- Whenever I spend time with med students I’m reminded why I do what I do. The energy that fills the rooms at orientation each year is magnetic, refreshing and gives me hope. Congrats @ubcmedicine.bsky.social class of 2029: hold on to this feeling. And remember @cmadocs.bsky.social has your back 💪
- Our system needs a lot of work. But when private care is typically more expensive and lower quality (while also stealing docs and nurses from the public system), it can't be treated as a long-term solution.
- Joining the CMA Board of Directors or committee is an exceptional opportunity to shape the future of the profession. These positions build professional development and enable you to make a real impact. We need thoughtful, dedicated leaders to help build a stronger health workforce in Canada.
- July 1 thousands of new residents across Canada begin their work as doctors It’s the start of long shifts, tough lessons and meaningful moments. They’ve trained for this. They’re passionate, hardworking and they are ready Spot a red backpack? 👀🎒 That’s a new grad! www.instagram.com/reel/DLkQqhM...
- As past-president of @cmadocs.bsky.social I was honoured to attend the British Med Assoc's annual meeting this week We had thoughtful conversations about team-based care, climate & health, #physicianwellness, #burnout, and how to better support our medical learners www.threads.com/@jossreimer/...

- AB is seeing its worst measles outbreak since 1979 – last week reaching 879 cases & rising. Measles is highly contagious but preventable. The vaccine is 97% effective. Protect yourself and your community.

- Last night at the @cjf-fjc.bsky.social Awards in Toronto, @lenardmonkman.bsky.social was awarded the Indigenous Health Fellowship – a meaningful collaboration between CJF and @cmadocs.bsky.social to support Indigenous voices in health journalism.
- "Today's action… undermines that trust and upends a transparent process that has saved countless lives" - Dr Bruce A Scott, President - American Medical Association www.cbc.ca/news/world/c...
- This is genuinely heartbreaking www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...
- A strong economy requires healthy Canadians and an accessible, resilient health care system. 🩺 With the push to reduce provincial trade barriers at today’s First Ministers meeting, now is the right time to make sure doctors can practise anywhere they are needed at any time. #CDNhealth
- Congratulations @drmargotburnell.bsky.social! Your experience and passion for patient care comes at a crucial time. Looking forward to your leadership and advocacy 👏
- Today marks my last day as President of the CMA. As I wrap up my term with @cmadocs.bsky.social, I want to thank you all - patients and physicians - for allowing me to advocate on your behalf. Canadian health care has a long way to go, but I know we’re headed in the right direction.
- I had a great discussion with Dr. Michael Gardam and Amanda Lang about the rise of measles cases, the decline of vaccinations, and challenges faced by families in Canada from misinformation. 🎧 Listen here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ik4...
- King Charles' visit has me and many others reflecting on Canada's unique identity, and the universal health care system that will always be a part of it.
- Pleased to hear the government's commitment to breaking down remaining labour mobility barriers. Allowing doctors to practice where they're needed is a small change that would help make the Canadian health system more responsive to the needs of Canadians.
- Congratulations @lenardmonkman.bsky.social! Indigenous voices offer a key perspective often missing from health journalism. I look forward to learning from your impactful work.
- The Canadian Disability Benefit is a step forward - but its time-consuming application process means fewer Canadians will actually be helped. Over the next year, doctors will spend as much as 82,500 hours filling out these applications. In that same amount of time, they could see 247,500 patients.
- On World Family Doctor day, I want to take a moment to thank all the amazing family docs working in Canada. Your dedication, expertise, and compassion are the foundation of our health system. To both my own family doc and to my colleagues, I am profoundly grateful! You are truly irreplaceable.
