- Reposted by Jennifer GrohNo more than FY25, which is a lot and still incredibly damaging. We have to stop using that language because it makes it sound like the problem is fixed. It is absolutely not.
- Reposted by Jennifer GrohMultiyear funding is normed on FY2025 levels, not FY2024 levels. This means the number of grants paid will go up, but may not go up very much compared to last year.
- Reposted by Jennifer GrohNot quite: "NIH would not be required to cap the proportion of new multiyear awards at 2024 levels. Instead, the bill limits the amount of money for multiyear funding to the 2025 level, which means the total number of new awards could again drop by 2000 compared with 2024.
- Reposted by Jennifer GrohIt is limited in statute with teeth. But only to FY25 levels (39%) - the same level that contributed substantially to a 25% decrease in new science funding from NIH last year. So it's not toothless but it is ineffective.

- Reposted by Jennifer GrohYou can call your members of congress and demand they find a way to go to the "FY24 multi-year funding levels" at NIH. And we really need to build Congressional capacity, including a return to a more open appropriations process where these issues are openly, publicly aired. /end

- Reposted by Jennifer GrohNIH budget bill out today. It’s the result of heavy negotiations in Congress over past month+. 🧪 Big pic: NIH budget now is abt more than funding. It’s abt restraining the technical ways NIH is being broken by Proj 2025. And the restraints in the bill are tepid 🤷♂️ Also: watch ICE/DHS budget. 🧵1/

- Reposted by Jennifer GrohI would have thought at least 2000 and perhaps as many as 5000 labs closing in FY26. There are about 50,000 NIH R01 equivalent awards. If the number of groups funded is again 34% below FY24, then (50000/5) = 10000 groups exposed per year 10000*2*0.34 = 6800 (but not all close immediately)
- Reposted by Jennifer GrohJust spoke to The Hill about how the dismantling of the NIH is impacting science in America. We still face a cliff of unfathomable heights, w easily 1000+ labs poised to close in the next year due to funding ending. A generation of young scientists lost because there is nowhere for them to train.
- Reposted by Jennifer GrohExplain to Congress how important it is to keep multiyear funding of NIH grants in the funding bill. This protects against Russell Vought's trick, which is to make this year's NIH budget cover multiple years of research in advance. Tell your Congresscritter. US Capitol switchboard: 202-224-3121.

- Reposted by Jennifer GrohAgree, NIH staff saved the day. Despite their heroic effort, the bad multiyear funding (MYF) policy from Vought's OMB means fewer grants, fewer cures, & research workforce brain drain. Any NIH appropriations bill must include language that limits the use of MYF in FY2026 - or this trend continues.
