- I am not a religious person, but I am praying for Jamaica (and Cuba). Seeing this hurricane about to hit them (in late October, nonetheless) is horrifying. I have not vetted all the charities in the article, but they have good advice for avoiding scams. www.palmbeachpost.com/story/news/2...
- In all of the uncertainty and difficulty in this world right now, the thing I crave most for comfort and a sense of normalcy is meaningful human connection. Sadly, it seems most people are hunkering down and trying to survive this inside their shell. We have to come together in times like these.
- Another amazing black creator, D'Angelo has died at just 51 years of age. On October 14, he died from pancreatic cancer. His voice, lyrics, performances, and demeanor shaped a generation. Men, see a doctor and get your annuals - too many young men are dying from colorectal and prostate cancer.

- NO. WAY. He lied? I can't wait to see how his cult followers rationalize this one. Adam Grant had a great post yesterday asking people to define where their line would be before they stopped supporting a leader. He said people who don't have that line lack integrity. apnews.com/article/trum...

- Eric Thomas' answer to this question is some of the best advice I've read. It is kind, thoughtful, and speaks to a person about how we all understand the world a bit differently. His take on human relations, with a focus on communicating with autism is great. www.oregonlive.com/entertainmen...

- It's exhausting living in a place and time where more information is available than ever before - at most people's fingertips - and we still have to argue with people about whether climate change is real or whether billionaires have the general public's best interests in mind.

- When you finally understand why Alaskans call bald eagles rats with wings. Out on the river with friends this weekend, saw one having a fish meal. Friend came down and started yelling at it. Then another one dive bombed them while another circled above. Lol
- More backyard friends: the other day, I saw a metallic insect in the soil, upside down. That was cool enough until I picked it up and turned it over. I was excited for this "scarab" (wrong family) until I found out it's a wood boring beetle. But I live in the woods, so it just enjoys the conifers.
- In order to not go crazy, I'm going to continue to introduce you to backyard friends. Tonight's friend is a newt that got tumbled by my dog who didn't see it in the dark. After being stunned it walked away, seemingly fine. I put it near a small slug so it could snack. But not before its closeup.
