OMG thank you. A bunch of dipshits have wildly over-indexed on this and the Lynn Cheney thing, when not one voter out of a *million* knows who all those people are or what happened.
If you knew who Dick Cheney was, you were in a class of high-info voters who Kamala won

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT
As of January 1st 2026, John and I are **no longer** the owners of Complexly (the educational media company we started 15 years ago that makes Crash Course, Eons, SciShow, Study Hall, and a bunch of other shows.)
We have been the sole owners for all that time...
sorry to be sentimental but this is the most amazing heartwarming story
If many people hold a left-wing opinion they are a mob and should be ignored; if few people hold a left wing opinion they are fringe and should be ignored. The substance or correctness of the opinion is irrelevant. This is the reactionary centrist credo

I learned two important pieces of news in this post: 1) Frozen OJ from concentrate as a product is being discontinued by major producers. 2) Beverage analysts refer to market share as “share of throat.” And I think that’s just lovely.

So long, frozen juice from concentrate. The once-popular canned drink leaves shelves this year | CBC News
Attention, lemonade stand vendors: You'll have to squeeze the fresh stuff this summer. Minute Maid is discontinuing its line of frozen juices as consumers turn to healthier beverages, and it was potentially the last company selling the concentrated cans in the Canadian market.
This gets us one step closer toward the final form of Tesla, where the only thing it sells is pieces of paper that say “we swear this isn’t a Ponzi scheme.”
Tesla CEO Elon Musk said on Wednesday that the automaker is ending production of its Model S and X vehicles, and will use the factory in Fremont, California, to build Optimus humanoid robots.

Wow.

If you’re Dems, please coalesce around Stephen Miller not having a job anymore.
This entire party of morons convinced itself to *take horse medicine during a pandemic*. And somehow that, too, became Dems' fault! They didn't use a calm enough voice when approaching Cletus, I guess. Can't startle Cletus, he might run off and take horse medicine.
Feh.

This thread is the sort of in-depth conversation I missed from the old Twitter days.

This week’s Benedict Evans column was a direct criticism of Tech leaders support for Trump. Praiseworthy for a right-leaning analyst that will probably suffer a cost from taking a stand. Which is the point of the column.

HOW IT WORKS IN MOVIES:
1. Government lies
2. Brave heroes release video showing the truth
3. Press says “the government is lying!”
HOW IT APPARENTLY WORKS IN REAL LIFE
1. Brave heroes release video showing the truth
2. Government lies
3. Press says “Oh no, what now? So confusing! So hard!”
Freedom is when I don’t have to pay taxes and people who exercise their constitutional rights are beaten, shoved into camps, and shot in the back or the face by masked agents of the state
Populist, conspiratorial, & authoritarian stacks perform very well in the new information environment. They deliver speed, certainty, & identity coherence where traditional democratic institutions deliver delay, complexity, & opacity, assuming they're performing in a substantial way to being with.
In the old system, institutions had temporal buffers, which meant they could verify before public judgment cohered. In the new system, those buffers have collapsed. Meaning now stabilises for the public in hours, long before institutional processes can finish.
Does anyone have any idea how we break the echo chambers? No Trump voter in my family will ever know what actually happened to Alex Pretti or Renee Good. They will believe the officers were justified. They will watch Fox News and that will be the end of it.

This both true and not. Re-arranging flows of purchases (or in a more extreme scenario stocks of ownership) under the hypothetical of Europeans halting all buys would be abject chaos. And that’s significantly more true when adding other assets (corporate bonds, equities, etc).

The Trump disbelief that the Norwegian govt doesn't control the Nobel process is deeply indicative of his thinking. He can't conceive that an institution could (or should) be genuinely independent of coercion or political power. That's the change he represents.
Trump: "I should have gotten the Nobel prize for each war...I saved millions and millions of people...and don't let anyone tell you that Norway doesn't control the shots. It's in Norway. Norway controls the shots. It's a joke. They've lost such prestige.“
Frankly: it is ridiculous that Russia (population circa 145 million, awful demographics, GDP of about the same size as Italy) is a security threat to Europe that requires US help to manage. But it currently is.
Reversing that is the first aim. And very very achievable.
In a speech to the World Economic Forum, Mark Carney says middle powers such as Canada must accept that the rules-based international order is effectively dead, and great power rivalry with is here to stay. Key excerpt:
I like that the same day a guy was like “this place will never be Twitter” this thread gave us the most 2015 Twitter experience (complimentary) imaginable.

When I’m home the only news I get from my buildings group chat are about burglaries, leaks and fires. Now I’m away for a couple of weeks and everyone is sharing gorgeous photos of the northern lights taken from their windows. fml
Kinda funny that Trump thinks "asylum" means other countries send people from insane asylums, and a) this is real life, not a ham-handed Idiocracy-type satire, b) he has surely been corrected several times but is incapable of updating his priors, & c) most media politely agree not to mention it.
On the one hand, it’s a good description of the situation, on the other, why do we must treat Americans like 10-year-olds.

2️⃣ He said it, but you misunderstood him.
3️⃣ He said what you understood, but he was just trolling.
4️⃣ He was serious but he's just negotiating, not going to do it.
5️⃣ He's going to do it for grand strategy reasons I've invented.
