- The demo felt pretty breezy on the Normal difficulty so I wonder if Hard is any better. It's kind of weird that recent Dragon Quest games are swinging so much between too easy and over-tuned. It was felt like the challenge level was just right for a long time.
- I've been playing the Dragon Quest VII remake and while it's lovely to look at, the lack of challenge is a problem. Dead party members revive after battles, there are healing statues before every boss, and you restore HP on level-ups (unlike DQ1-3 HD, you can't toggle this off). No friction at all
- I kind of wish difficulty discourse didnt always boil down to "games should be shorter and easier because i'm old now". There's some great conversations about game design to be had that people are all too eager to shoot down.
