- journalists are workers who deserve to be paid fairly for our labor and I think that far too few consumers of media recognize or even care about this factFeb 4, 2026 17:20
- you’ll miss us when we’re gone
- look I don’t need an explanation for why media is bad now. I’ve been working as a journalist for over 20 years and spent 5 as an editor/union leader at VICE before getting axed in a mass layoff. I’m a veteran of multiple “pivots to video” and media union drives. do not speak to me of the old magic
- I really like what @marisakabas.bsky.social said about bundled subscriptions. Newsletters are a nightmare to keep up with and I'm often more interested in seeing a variety of perspectives around the same topics than reading every piece from one or two people.
- I'd happily pay somewhere between $30 - $90 a month split up among all the journalists I follow on here, to support yalls work and access it in a medium that works for me (bsky threads / links to articles). But it's much harder if I have to manage each subscription by itself.
- This is true and I get irritated every time someone complains about fact most media is not available for free. I wonder how many of them would work for free?
