I should not be allowed to 'network' alone.
Yesterday at a preview I confidently walked up to a man I recognised but could not remember where from... As we were talking I realised I didn't actually know him. So for five whole minutes I long-form apologised and then walked away.
I also made an 'excited face' at another stranger because she looked a bit like a friend.
It was not my friend.
So I badly frightened a woman by randomly 'excited face'ing at her on a staircase and then running away.
I have had my eyes tested.
It's not that, I'm just dumb.
Face blindness is a terrible thing. I didn't recognise my dad, once, and I don't recognise my own children in photos (or myself, often) if I've not seen the photo before, or if I don't recognise something else like occasion, location or clothing.
I suspect I have a touch of it. I once ran past my mum outside of school because she’d changed her hair.
Yup that's it. Ever watched a film, and someone takes their hat off, and you think a whole new character has appeared? Ot there are two young, blond, or old, bearded characters and you think they are the same person?
I’m not fully face blind, but I sometimes struggle if someone shaves their beard or changes their hair significantly etc. I’m good at voices though so I can often figure out differences in actors etc. that way. I have definitely mixed up similar looking acquaintances with each other before too.
Voices help me a lot too. You learn to recognise people by mannerisms and movement too, which is why it's so much harder in a photograph.
Yeah I do the same thing with body language and general presence.
