The Dickens Fellowship
Founded in London in 1902, The Dickens Fellowship is a worldwide association of people who share an interest in the life and works of the novelist, journalist and social reformist Charles Dickens (1812-1870).

- Proudly raising a glass, today, to B. W. Matz, whose grave we have had restored in his anniversary year. Matz was the first Hon Gen Sec of the DF, our President from 1920-21, and Hon Editor of our journal, ‘The Dickensian’, from its inception in 1905 until his death in 1925.

- Yesterday the world lost one of its greatest Dickens scholars, Professor Michael Slater MBE. He was DF President 1988-1990 and Hon Editor of ‘The Dickensian’ 1958-1977, and wrote the definitive biography of CD. His warmth and wisdom will be sorely missed. RIP Michael.

- We enjoyed a fascinating talk by Professor Carolyn Oulton last night at Central DF, based on her research into the ‘Lushy’ Stepney Pickwick Club of the 1830s. Sadly the quality of the recording is poor, but it is now available on our website: www.dickensfellowship.org/index.php/ce...

- October’s Central DF meeting gets underway, with speaker Dr Jeremy Parrott
- RT from Ian Dickens, on X: ‘A Christmas Carol’ illustrator John Leech spent 3 months in Bonchurch in 1849. The pretty house he rented is now for sale at £825,000. In one of the bedrooms, Dickens successfully used his mesmerism skills after Leech suffered a head injury while swimming in rough seas.
