Elaine Atwell
i believe that i am the biggest bonnie raitt fan of my generation.

- i’ve been working in security for years now (in fact i gave an assist to the blog cited here) and i don’t think people realize the degree to which any and every company letting agents run wild in their infrastructure is lighting every principle of security on fire. the fallout will be unimaginable.

- i pretty much take it for granted that high level officials and executives are exposing sensitive data to public AI tools 10,000 times a day. in the coming years, you are going to see so many variations of this story.

- i have not jumped on the “any day now” bandwagon thus far, but he legitimately looks near death in this photo.
- even accounting for his spray tan and stage lights, his skin just ain’t right
- to the pantheon of Father Time and Mother Nature, i would like to propose we add Auntie Weather. Aunt Weather: -can be super chill and nice -prone to occasional outbursts that often coincide with holidays -less predictable as time goes on -shows up to fucking everything
- NOW THAT’S MORE LIKE IT
- Reposted by Elaine AtwellIt's weird how after every good thing/gain (even if we don't call it a victory) people circle up to insist we shouldn't celebrate. Celebrating is not how people give up, in my experience; believing we can't win, never win, and have no power is (with a side of joylessness).
- like, who do you think inspired this post? was it peter thiel? stephen miller? bovino? homan? vought? trump himself? (it was peter thiel but the point is how incredibly deep the bench is on Team Ghoul!)
- remember when cheney was VP, and everyone was astonished that someone so transparently evil, who absolutely radiated malice and greed, could rise so high in public life? and now that describes, like, every fifth guy you see on the news.
- everything else aside, it’s such a humiliating indictment of our times that a serious european in a suit has to stand at a lectern and say the word “grok.” that accent was meant for better things.
- We are opening an investigation into Grok because we believe that X may have breached the DSA. We have seen antisemitic content, non-consensual deepfakes of women, and child sexual abuse material. In Europe, no company will make money by violating our fundamental rights. link.europa.eu/Fh8h84

- Reposted by Elaine AtwellA reminder to the news media: “conflicting accounts” is what you say BEFORE the incontrovertible video evidence appears. After that, your job is to ask why one side is lying, not to repeat the lie and pretend no one knows the truth.

- Jesus Christ this is so far outside the norm. “government inquiries” mean they will share user data even without a subpoena.

- Reposted by Elaine Atwelltrump getting his feelings hurt by european leaders is the culmination of this new type of guy that emerged in the last decade or so: guy who goes out of his way to be a huge asshole who then gets really offended when the people he's being an asshole to don't like him

- Reposted by Elaine AtwellThere are no rules, they don’t actually care about respect, decorum, bipartisanship or debate, and only pretend to do so to browbeat you into submission. Nothing is going to change until more people realise that and respond accordingly; including to the media and politicians who have failed them.

- seriously i have soooo much meaner shit to say to those punks than what they harassed parker off here for.
- parker molloy has been a brave, funny, honorable force for trans rights and good politics on the internet for AGES. she carried the torch when it was a guttering candle. she carried it in the rain. the brats who chased her off here are just dime a dozen clout chasers.

- i’m seeing a lot of smart people explain why venezuelan oil is not worth the proverbial squeeze, but also seeing the trump admin clearly say that they’re giving the country as a present to our big beautiful oil companies, and what i haven’t seen is anyone who can square that circle.

- we, as a society, need to get on the same page about a basic norm. the last days before holiday vacation are for: 1. tying up loose ends 2. going to meetings in a festive sweater/hat 3. saying “let’s circle back in the new year” NOT sprinting toward self-imposed deadlines or launching new projects.

- this isn’t *good* for johnson, but IMO the rumblings of his imminent demise are overblown. the first cracks might be showing in the GOP, but the dam is a long way from bursting, and until it does, johnson is actually very good at projecting calm and normalcy and playing dumb when needed.

The structural break after which we were no longer a full democracy, when 5 Wizards In Robes decided they were a super-legislature & counting all the actual votes didn’t matter. The rest has been 25 years of commentary.
