Or people who want the sales associated with romantasy (or cosy crime, or sci-fi), but don’t actually know the genre, or want to read any.
- Reposted by Dapo AdeolaUnsolicited writing advice, no. 1579: If you’re going to write in any genre (children’s fiction, SFF, romance, etc), you need to read EXTENSIVELY in that genre. You need to read current authors in the genre. You need to know what’s been done; what tropes exist; how the genre has changed.
- I need more artists and creatives to clock this for what it is and stop self identifying with this DEAD trope. It’s bad enough the rest of the world upholds this narrative, you don’t have to willingly do it to yourself.

- Reposted by Dapo AdeolaI do feel like part of the hatred extended toward Bluesky is a function of preferring to think that the alarm about the state of the country that’s common here is misguided or exaggerated. Dismissing the site as liberal doomers allows you to dismiss those concerns, too.

- Let me be clear, Julia makes good books. But an undeniable amount of these sales is also down to the way her books are literally given their own separate shelves and signage in EVERY high street bookstore in the country. These kind of numbers are bound to happen in that kinda set up.
- Again, this is not a shot at Julia’s books. My issue is with the way books are marketed in this industry, and to what extent these kinda sales are manufactured and engineered by high street bookstores. The shelf space and visibility will always be limited if this is the only way things are done.
