- During the day, Verreaux's Eagle-Owls hang out in the shady upper umbrella branches of acacia trees. If you are lucky to spot one and fiddle with your camera settings, you can eventually capture an image that actually showcases their distinctive red eye-shadow! #birds #safari #wildlifephotography
- Bateleur is quite a strange name for a bird - but it does seperate them a bit from a rather boring etyological crowd. The name is French for 'street performer or acrobat'. In this way the name (not to mention the colour) reminds me of another theatrical bird name - Harlequin Duck.
- Bataleur eagles are classic African raptors with a look unlike any other of the world birds of prey. In flight in particular, their tail seems to be missing as they soar overhead. I spotted this pair last week in #TZ #birds
