Rather than roll over to a Pride ban, he led a march of hundreds of thousands in Budapest. Now, he's being charged under their anti-Pride law. But he won't be deterred. Our latest story.
- My monthly phone plan used to have a $3 data add on (250 MB) bringing it up to $33 per month. I bought a new used phone from the company and they let me keep my plan (instead of upgrading to $45 per month) BUT they paused the data add on. I just went to reinstate it and now the options are ~$20
- I live and work in places with wifi. I need a tiny amount of data so I can scan QR codes at places where it's the only option (e.g. to get in virtual lines for actual services) or to use google maps. I don't understand how a plan can be $45 with 10GB data but I want just 250 MB and it's a huge cost
- Each individual having a phone and and access to data has become assumed in how many places function but that comes with an enormous cost to individual consumers (my new used phone was $400) and it just feels out of control tbh. A high cost and so much electronic waste.
- Sad to hear about the passing of Kirsty Duncan. I missed an opportunity to meet her last year but her vocal presence as a woman in sport and academia as well as her work in politics including advocating for science and safe sport leave a lasting legacy. www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...
- I'm traveling to PEI week after next and I opted to take the train, mostly because I like trains but also more luggage I think? The whole thing once I get to the east coast is delightfully small town. 3/3
- There is a single bus from Moncton to Charlottetown. It leaves half an hour after the train in theory should arrive. I asked VIA and they essentially said absolutely do not plan on the train being on time. I asked the bus and they said book it once you know you'll make it. 2/3
- The nice bus person I called basically laughed when I asked if there was any chance the train might arrive early. (She has never had that happen), but if it seems like it will be ontime (there is about 15 min leeway) I can book day of by calling them and they will look for me in the station. 3/3
- Reminder: when dressing in cold weather the goal is not to sweat because wet clothes are cold clothes. Wear lots of layers to stay warm but plan around also taking some layers off and on depending on activities.
- Squirrels are cool but I love the deep background lore that seems to be going on in this thread about the Toronto Trinity-Bellwood Park squirrelll colony! (Also I have no idea how Ele has created so many different amazing and meaningful prints, so impressive.)
- Happy #SquirrelAppreciationDay! Despite the opinion of some people in my home there’s a colony of white squirrels in Toronto’s Trinity-Bellwood Park! I know. I’ve seen them, This is a portrait of one of them, climbing head-down a maple tree, along with the words “Legendary White Squirrel of 🧵

- What are folks thoughts on the impending fitbit account migrations to google? Part of me feels like there should be a limit to how much info google has on me but at the same time my watch is still working as a watch.
- Wild to read that there is a saliva test being developed to detect concussions! I have had a couple really bad concussions (and post concussion syndrome) and definitely current tests make it hard to identify the initial injury or chart recovery. uwaterloo.ca/news/media/d...
- Also very cool that two profs who taught me in undergrad are involved.
- I think this will be a year of goodbyes. Not to negate the really scary situation south of the border, but my BF was pretty sad today when he realized most cereals in canadian stores are products of the USA. Canadians are still angry.
- As someone studying concrete deterioration mechanisms I love looking at the gardiner when I'm in Toronto. Excellent art project XD During the Royal I've heard exhibitors sometimes put their animals under the highway which can be an issue with falling concrete maybe room to expand the art project?

- Having just driven from a freezing-rain hit region (London ON) to a region soon to be hit by freezing rain (near Wasaga) we never the less did not consider picking up sand or salt. We have now tried covering the walkway (to get from one floor to another) w snow in hopes that it will be less slippy
