- Just updating our data now that January has come to a close. So far We've tracked almost 3K people known to have been hit by games industry layoffs this year in 23 known waves (Half of the total waves seen in 2022) January 2026 was definitely one of the worst months we've tracked to date.
- This looks bad, right? But here is the thing... ITS WORSE This survey only reached a narrow selection of respondents. Notably cut anybody who has been unemployed for too long. Mostly just ppl who can afford to attend GDC. Many laid off before 2025 are still looking! variety.com/2026/gaming/...
