Purposely vague complaint post: You would think the the stars had aligned for me to exorcise my narrative game design skills and contribute. But, as always, it’s an elite few that get development hats and they ignore all other possible talents available on the team. It’s frustrating, like always
Jan 26, 2026 15:32It should feel like it’s “from” the community. But it always feels like we’re just passengers or observers. We, the volunteers, don’t get to really take part or have steaks in any of this.
It’s a small number of people’s pet project, and even though more outside of that tiny group spends a ton of energy on everything put into the project, it doesn’t matter nor is ever good enough. We outside the circle are treated as expendable commodities if recognised at all.
I really believed in the varnish in the beginning. But with each passing year and their doubling down on continuing to do the same problematic practices that are brought up internally every event, I’m getting worn out. I can only take so much squeezing without being refilled.
