Nature, cooking, music, being creative and living ecologically. Inquisitive, unconventional, quite spiritual, happy in my quiet corner.
- I have no idea why people think it’s spooky in this old goat house. Just me, the sound of owls and the running stream….🦉🌝
- Sunbathing robin 🤭
- Bird news: It looks like my gentle robin friend has triumphantly ousted the aggressive male near his patch and stolen his mate! Suddenly they were happily staying near each other today, the other male nowhere to be seen, choices made! All is fair in love and war…I guess 😬😆
- It will be his first chicks this year, and I’m so close to him I feel like they’re mine too! The backstory is; I found a nest of robin chicks at the base of a fern last year …
- Whilst I can’t be sure this robin is one of them, I’m pretty confident. When they fledged he started hopping around the veg patch nearby with me, and would enjoy the worms I tossed him. Much to the chagrin of his protective mum! 😬

- Fire’s on in the old goat house 🔥. I’m sleeping here tonight because it’s so cosy. It feels like being on holiday in here.
- I don’t know whether there was some flying overhead and I missed them, or Merlin had a bit of a senile moment when it id’d Whooper swans on my walk 🤔. I did hear something unusual. Anyway, I did hear redwing, blackcap, Buzzards and all the usuals.
- Ah yes, it was faint but it did sound like this. Cool. 😍 www.british-birdsongs.uk/whooper-swan...
- Today’s walk 🥰 very misty and snowy again. It’s hopelessly romantic here.
- Last May, mid May, it was soo dry, I found this poor mole lying in the open in the woods, obviously dehydrated and its tunnels probably crumbled or baked they were so dry 😢. I hope this year is better for them… even though I am collecting mole hills at the moment 😅
- Well looking out the window some of the snow has stuck so the gardening is put back a few more days/weeks. Never mind, more time to PLAN!, my favourite pastime! 🌟
- Some plans include ever more herbs - in troughs, ground, pot. To add to the small selection I’ve highlighted below. Chamomile, hyssop, mints, oregano. Winter savory has been a revelation, I sometimes use it as a salt substitute.
- Some wild orchids that grew in the garden last year after I didn’t mow ☺️. First is Common spotted, and I’m not sure if the second is a Heath spotted orchid or another common spotted, or a hybrid.
