- More birds at Aust yesterday. A feasting fieldfare, a stunning stonechat stance, an unhurried heron, and kissing kestrels* . . . . . *they weren’t, they were just close…had to keep up the alliteration 😬
- Aust’s penduline tit, 10.01.26 Literally blink and you’ll miss it. Hours of standing around but a beautiful patch to do so in the winter sun, and lots of other birds to stare at too. Also lovely to meet the like minded
- First bird of 2026, tawny owl heard from the garden Blwyddyn Newydd Dda 🦉 Happy New Year
- “Siawns am gêm?”
- “I’m ready for my close up” @naturespy.bsky.social
- An early morning ‘stand-in-the-garden-to-see-what-I-see’ in Denbighshire was worth it this morning when a male blackcap turned up, and a mistle thrush camouflaged within branches a while. Vocal blackbirds were busy, chasing, fighting, eating, and a great tit shared a repetitive, splendid song
- Feeder’s busy then @naturespy.bsky.social 🎵 Birdhouse in your Soul - They Might be Giants
- At last one for the @bto-gbw.bsky.social I’ve heard goldcrests and seen glimpses in surrounding gardens for aaages, and finally seen here in nextdoor’s tree. They hopped along the garden fence to get to this tree…that’s a GBW ✅ for me 🤗 2 dryw eurben yn yr ardd…un yn showan off ei eurben! 💛
- Fading light over River Clwyd, Rhuddlan. This time of year is the best time to witness beautiful light, dramatic skies, and silhouettes (I’m obsessed!) 😍 Afon Clwyd yn hyfryd ac arbennig iawn heddiw 🤩 27.12.25 @marcbuzzard.bsky.social
- Reposted by AngharadAn unseasonal Common Sandpiper on the River Clwyd near Rhuddlan this afternoon on enjoyable walk with @angnatur.bsky.social 55 Pink footed Geese, 47 Black-tailed Godwits and many many Wigeon, Teal and Dunlin to search through. #ukbirding #birdingwales
- An afternoon walk with @marcbuzzard.bsky.social along River Clwyd, Rhuddlan; long overdue catch up, a good list of birds, and beautiful light. Easier to repost Marc’s post for bird list! 👆🏼👆🏼
- Yr ysgyfarnog a’r ffesant. The hare and the pheasant. Just found this video from Penllyn in 2021. The posing is perfect at the end.
- Lots of squealing water rails at Newport Wetlands this morning and amazingly I spotted 2. Here’s one…honest! Water rail = Rhegen ddŵr 🏴 06.11.25
- Morning trip to RSPB Newport Wetlands, numerous reed buntings, blackbirds, pheasants and 100s of wood pigeon. Quick glimpses of jay and kingfisher. As usual, the vocal Cetti’s warbler, but I’ve never heard so many squealing water rails across the reserve 06.11.25
- Redwing calls caught last night on Merlin, among the bangs and bright lights of the fireworks. Not picked up here, but also tawny owl in the distance. 05/11/25
- The annual Sunday morning somewhere-in-Ceredigion walk, the day after the WOS conference. This year, Parc Natur Penglais. Not many on the bird list, but amazing trees and lots of fungi. Bore braf yn cerdded Penglais, a nath hi ddim glawio! 🧵 1/2

- Hei Cymru, BTO’s Garden BirdWatch (not RSPB’s GBBW) needs you! More so if you live in one of the thin slivers below, give it a go-just note the birds that visit your garden throughout the year💚 Shot taken from @welshlassy.bsky.social talk in @birdsinwales.bsky.social conference @bto-gbw.bsky.social
- WOS Conference 2025: 'Hear it! See it! Record it!' Great talks about the importance of monitoring & recording birds and flora & fauna sightings. Fab day👌🏼 @birdsinwales.bsky.social @rivers-disguise.bsky.social @penrhynbirder.bsky.social @cofnod.org.uk @btocymru.bsky.social @rspbcymru.bsky.social
- I love the @birdsinwales.bsky.social conference. The venue, the talks, the food, the stalls, the raffle! All brilliant, da iawn! But I really enjoy the socialising. Break times are scheduled perfectly into the day to catch up, or meet new acquaintances. Annual selfie with BTO’s Gethin Jenkins-Jones!
- Light and dark mode. Glorious robins in early morning sunlight and shade
- Unplanned Eglwysilan blue-sky walk this morning 💙 Lots of wood pigeons and pied wagtails, a few redwings overhead and fieldfares in trees, calling chaffinches and singing robins. Also green & great spotted woodpecker, jay, greenfinch, nuthatch, meadow pipit, skylark, wren, 3 rattling mistle thrush

- Posts from a fallen down trellis and a photo @dramirkhangp.bsky.social shared ages ago of horizontal bird feeders in his garden is the inspiration behind these feeders I’ve just hung up. Blue tit on it in less than 10 seconds, followed by great tit, then starling minutes later. A resounding success!

- I was asked after the 1st visit to Llanwonno recently if I’d had my nightjar fix this year. I could go searching for nightjars every night given half the chance! Trip number 3 last night…watched it churr on top of a tree a while… Trip number 4 hopefully soon!
- Diwrnod Pride Hapus! 🏳️🌈 Happy Pride Day! To my friends who will be taking part in the parade in Cardiff today, have a wonderful, sweaty time! Sporting a @rspb.bsky.social Pride badge on my way to work
- This morning’s #platformnature star is the dunnock. I stopped in my tracks (no pun intended) and listened a while. Just what I needed ❤️ Llwyd y berth yn canu’n braf bore ‘ma. Diolch am godi calon ❤️

- I think I might start a #platformnature tag! Lots to see on a train platform. Weekend - blackbirds alarm calling. A few minutes later, a magpie appeard with a blue egg in its beak, and hid it here, in flowers right next to the railtrack. Don’t hate the predators! #itsnature

- It’s that time of year for the annual ‘they won’t win awards’ photos and footage of Llanwonno’s nightjars, and other birds. 2 nightjars seen. A lovely trip last night with GBC #glambirds 03.06.25 🧵1 of 2
- Where do @lucylapwing.bsky.social remarkable #Springwatch props end up I wonder? They should be auctioned. Who doesn’t want a north/south facing mini wall on a mantlepiece?!
- My first ever view of a white tailed eagle on magical Mull in 2019. Lovely item on Dave Sexton on #Springwatch As Iolo would say, good man
- So Blur references tonight then @chrisgpackham.bsky.social #Springwatch ☕️➕📺

- A new song thrush nest on the #Springwatch live cameras. Let’s hope it’s nested far away from any predators, not like last year in Arne, when their nearest neighbours were the Goshawks
- Today has been bookended by Dippers. This morning I saw a dipper fishing for food - first time I’d seen this up close - then another preening. Then low and behold, on tonight’s #Springwatch I see it all again, with added Dipper facts from @chrisgpackham.bsky.social & Michaela. What are the chances?!
- Nice local walk this morning, lots seen/heard - meadow pipit, linnet, stonechat, wren, redstart, wheatear, willow warbler, lots of starlings (chicks), swallow, skylark, grey wagtail, raven… Eglwysilan, Caerphilly 13.05.25 #glambirds
- My patch, where I hope every year to see/hear my big 3. 2 out of 3 will do for me today. Redstarts and Wheatears, male and female. No cuckoo calling - might’ve left it too late. Caerphilly 13.05.25 Redstart = Tingoch 🏴 Wheatear =Tinwen y Garn 🏴 #glambirds
- Had no idea these things existed…a few houses in a new-build area had placed plastic discs to prevent house martins from nesting 😡 What’s wrong with us? Why are we so disconnected from nature? 😔 2nd photo - house martin collecting muddy remains of an old nest, probably for its own…very efficient ♻️
