- Is a river alive? What about a lough? Lough Neagh is the largest fresh water lake on the island of Ireland and in the whole of Britain. It supplies 40% of Northern Ireland's drinking water. Toxic algae caused by agricultural run-off and a lack of environmental policy is killing our lough.
