- Reposted by e. drake kajiokaNo joke: I got angry hate mail today for writing an obituary of a Black woman scientist—because the person felt she did didn’t deserve the recognition. Which just makes me want to share it again: www.nature.com/articles/d41...
- Apropos of nothing, did you know that the Fire Horse (火马) year in the Shengxiao is so feared that in 1966 it caused the birthrate in Japan to drop by 25%? This is because women born under the Fire Horse are thought to be "temperamental ... lethal threats to their fathers and husbands." 1/

- Users/commenters have parasocial relationships with content creators... do content creators have parasocial relationships with the subjects they post/talk about? Is it just parasociality all the way down?
- We're still very early in developing guidelines for AI use. But a good rule of thumb might be: Be very careful using AI for anything you want to get better at. It can be done but requires thoughtfulness. (And the inverse applies: use easily for skills you don't need.) arxiv.org/html/2601.20...

- Thinking about AI+creativity: 'creativity' still underspecified, but seems LLMs could be used to benchmark a 'creativity' score in a Turing-ish sort of way, eg -- could we quantify how well an LLM can mimic a writing style. Quite impractical, but 'distance from LLM' feels like a creativity rating.
- Among the things that jump out at me in this... "Travel Authorizations must be entered in Concur..." What does SAP have to say for itself? SAP employees? Does your company use Concur or other SAP products? Let them know what you think. www.kenklippenstein.com/p/immigratio...

- Boosting this one so you don't have to click through. I grabbed that pre-launch discount and so should you!
- Love this.
- Great newsletter from @gamediscoverco.bsky.social today. newsletter.gamediscover.co/p/are-a-new-... "Micropublishers" are absolutely what I was talking about in "Games That Let Go: Thriving in a Decentralized Future" ( dl.acm.org/doi/full/10.... ). Polden's specific techniques are interesting here.
- Reposted by e. drake kajiokathe best antidote to blackpilling is remembering that every video you see of an ICE thug abusing their power was recorded by an American who volunteered to put themselves in harm's way for the sake of people they've likely never met and never will
- Reposted by e. drake kajiokai have watched the shooter's video. it's going to make you way the fuck madder.
- What good is social media if we don't use it to complain about frivilous things?... I hate the new-ish and spreading #UX convention of search bars popping on the bottom of the screen. Hate it. Please stop.
- public class AusShepPhysics : MonoBehaviour { public Transform person; public float misery = 0f; void Update() { if (person == null) return; float distance = Vector3.Distance(transform.position, person.position); misery = Mathf.Clamp01(distance / 2f); } }
- Going back to repost this because I am seeing a surprising amount of mass confusion about what happened here. I think Anil has it right.

- Welcome, Mr. Shuldiner! No pressure ;)

- Wow. Wild stuff. Joi Ito apologizing to Epstein for MIT bouncing his donation just months before the New Yorker expose. And negotiating more $ 3mo before Epstein died. Somehow the media lab involvement still stings.
- Just the quirkiest recent example, but Claude is killing it lately. I'm a PTA volunteer and handle assorted digital stuff. Organizations are constantly distributing flyers for families with QR codes on them -- digitally. Weird example of how designing everything for phones falls down. (1/2)
- I adore Fei-Fei Li and was intrigued that she's been talking lately about "words to worlds". But I feel the disappointment deep in my gut that apparently what's meant by 'world' is 360 image gen. I know it's AI culture to release something and presume extrapolation, but that doesn't work anymore.
- To an extent this is already true, but as elsewhere, AI will accelerate it: the "machine internet" will expand & complexify. There is an enormous amount of work to be done to make it legible, tooled for human collaboration. The legibility is bidirectional; new info structures for machines as well.
