- It's still kind of insane to me that doing this sort of stuff is both my job, my hobby, and the thing I get to study on a day to day basis. Wargaming is really cool (though I will prefer modern Taiwan over Midway, I'll happily do either)!
- One of the thing's I think is fascinating (having heard it come up at another point in discussion on LLM's) is the inability of LLM's to manage resources in wargames. Kind of minor but that it can't do a very basic thing any human could do (even poorly) probably has some interesting implications.
- What? AI just reinforces human cognitive biases and can't do abductive reasoning? Who could have guessed? www.militarystrategymagazine.com/article/ai-c...

- The issue with real maps instead of terrain by hex is that people can have different opinions on the dominant terrain in the hex. My genius solution to players (and officers...) being unable to read maps: go by hand hex-by-hex to label the number of units that can use the terrain.

- Due to the sheer number of players signing up for the KCL Crisis Sim nowadays I'm having to fit more players into Jaws. Sheets makes it pretty easy to create a midterms model letting me put more politicians on the US team worried about the effect of the crisis/war on elections.

- Interesting photo and a little description of some wargaming going on in the Taiwanese military: www.ydn.com.tw/tw/News/ugC_...
- Another run of Jaws of the Dragon for MA students this weekend. Quick Chinese back down after a failed attempt to enforce an AEZ, but then quick escalation to all out war after the US stopped by force a VBSS of a ship carrying aid and the Chinese responded by attacking the SAG.

- One of the fun things about wargaming is getting to look for and then sort through a bunch of data to build models to figure out that the answer is 3 dice and 20 supply. I still have to try to find some more modern numbers, then to size the direct fire units.

- Playtest standee updates for First, Seek the Help of the Gods. I'm hoping that this will be finished up and put out soon (only a few more books left to read)!

- I got to play this at Connections this year, and I second this assessment. It's a good game for an introduction to modern air combat having the right level of abstraction to be both representative enough, playable, and to leave enough room for a good discussion.
- Samurai skirmishing today. The most bloody run of these rules I've ever seen, with an almost complete inability of our opponents to roll poorly (and my inability roll above a 5) made this a brutal slog. Our clan is badly short of key members and retainers after this.

- I was on the 20 Sided Gamified Podcast discussing a pile of topics: how I got into wargaming, the mystique and practice of professional wargaming, what it's like running a megagame, and my research on what dice represent in combat resolution, plus more. podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/2...

- NATO WIN was interesting this year. Got to get Brigade Commander out, see some really cool games (Black Sky makes me want to get back to finalize my own space wargame), hear some new stuff about wargaming in different nations (interesting to compare), and see a bit of Italy for the first time.

- I'll be presenting at 8:00 am (UK Time) at Connections Oz tomorrow on modular approaches to wargaming Taiwan using Jaws of the Dragon as an example. If 8 is too early in the morning, they usually record them and post them later...
