- Reposted by Shanna Katz Kattari, PhD 🍉🏳️⚧️🏳️🌈♿️I keep seeing posts going "when ICE comes to MY city, we'll be out in the streets even harder" and man, I get that sentiment but I need everyone to understand that the work in Minneapolis is partly confrontational but MORE IMPORTANTLY aaallll the stuff organized in the background to help neighbors

Rodney Taylor is a double amputee who was days away from receiving new prosthetic legs when ICE took him. He’s been denied his prosthetics & placed in solitary. His health is declining. Public outrage might save his life. Say his name:

Multiple people have been detained. Community members are advising folks to carry citizenship documents - or stay away if they are at risk

- Folks who think ICE isn’t in our communities? They are just doing it more quietly. They’ve been here in Michigan kidnapping our neighbors for months.
- Stop pretending it’s business as usual. Social work faculty, talk to your students about community organizing, community care, mutual aid. Have them do break outs to talk about the role(s) they want to play right now. Do safety planning work. Share various theories of change. Do not be complicit.

- Another Minnesotan was just beaten by six agents, pepper sprayed, pistol whipped, then shot in the back. Ten times. The ICE agent then said “boo hoo” to those witnessing it in horror. Abolish ICE.
- Also. Yes. Things are bad on the home front. Annnnnd. Iran has murdered at least 5,000 folks (could be closer to 20,000), and still are throttling communication. Gaza is freezing and starving and under attack. West Bank too. Sudan is experiencing horror. Congo is being mined for our phones.

RFK Jr. will succeed in eliminating all of our vaccines if allowed to remain in office. His disinformation campaign and the falling demand for vaccines will cause American companies to stop making them.

High quality masks can serve triple-duty: they prevent you and others from getting sick from airborne viruses, they keep your face warm in the freezing cold, & they can protect against surveillance.

- The moral injury of watching cis folks silent on the trans genocide in the U.S., activists spouting community care while not masks/respirators, colleagues hosting meetings while not talking about the kidnappings happening on streets. Things are not normal. They have not been for a very long time.
- I had another appt with the UM Post Acute Covid Sequela clinic today. More testing (neuro psych this time to assess memory), more new interventions (hyper mobility PT! Trying a CPAP!), more home exercises, more CBT support groups. Long COVID has taken away so much of my life, and is a full time job.

- Talking to a fellow professory friend tonight as we prep classes for next week. She asks me if I ever feel like we are setting out deck chairs on the Titanic. Such a relief. I feel crazy (intentional word choice) at the silence in higher ed, the push to run this semester like normal.

Renee Goode’s murder is a crime everyone could plainly see but make no mistake, there are many families who will never see their father, mother, sibling, or parent again because of ICE.
- Reminder that Covid isn’t over (and either is RSV or the flu, both of which are hitting harder this year due to immune damage from multiple covid infections). Mask up folks.

- Poll for folks interested in me, my work, and/or things I like to talk about. 1) would you listen to a podcast of me (and guests)? If so, what type of topics are of interest? And what platforms do you get podcasts from? Picture of Oliver, a large grey cat, who found the bathroom heating vent.
- Never stop talking about Palestine.
- If you are not aghast and actively working to protect the basic safety and humanity of trans children, to protect our neighbors from 🧊, to make sure people have food and housing, to ensure Black folks aren’t getting lynched and working to end MMIWG, wearing a mask to protect disabled folks…
- Heartbroken over the loss of another queer (Bi+!) crip ancestor in the passing of Loraine Hutchins. She was always so kind and supportive of me from the day we met at an intersectionality workshop I taught. Her bi pride and inclusivity activism has had such impact. Her memory is already a blessing.

- Heartbroken to hear of @sfdirewolf.bsky.social ‘s transition to be a crip anscestor AND feeling so honored to have been alive in the time as this brilliant human, and gotten to learn from her. May her memory continue to always be a blessing.

- I’ve been in two legal marriages with two different wonderful people over the years, as well as have meaningful relationships with my other partners. To me, legal marriage has always been about rights, especially as a disabled person. Ensuring my loves are insured, and can visit me in the hospital.
- If anyone would like to watch the Social Work Disability Justice League's opening plenary at the Council on Social Work Education's Annual Conference with me, Laura Wernick, and Vandana Chaudry on Disability Justice & Disability Joy, we start at about 20:00 : www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Vxt...
- thankful to Kelli for this: “By the time something is beyond urgent, they are rolling into the emergency department with multiple chronic and acute issues," Kattari said. "They then feel let down and betrayed once again by the system that harmed them previously." pridesource.com/article/navi...
- Literally none of the reports from the @transequality.bsky.social 2022 USTS have the world disability in them, which is wild, as at last count, 42% of trans Michiganders reported a disability, and 39% of trans people in the 2015 USTS did the same.
