- Earlier this year, Chen et al. @science.org showed that droughts are intensifying globally, with warming. www.science.org/doi/full/10.1126/science.ado4245, Now, Gebrechorkos et al. @nature.com confirms the same findings. Very important work, but not wholly novel doi.org/10.1038/s415...

- 1/ How often does a major droughts hit the Alps? A deep dive into the data. 🌍 Having free and accessible drought data makes it easy to check how climate change has already impacted a region. Using our global drought dataset envidat.ch#/metadata/gl..., I took a closer look at the Alps. 🧵👇

- David L. Hoover and William K. Smith also published an amazing overview in @science.org on how our study fits into the recent research on this topic and that "... a deeper understanding of multiyear droughts is still lacking." www.science.org/doi/10.1126/... @wsl-dme.bsky.social
- The increasing amount of droughts were also a topic in the Swiss news SRF, where they emphasised that the increase in area affected per year is larger than Switzerland www.srf.ch/play/tv/news... @wsl-dme.bsky.social @extremeswsl.bsky.social @wslresearch.bsky.social
- Canadian Broadcasting Corporation also highlights the study, mentioning how one of Canada's worst droughts (1999-2005) caused shipping to be restricted on the Great Lakes and a loss of 41,000 jobs. www.cbc.ca/lite/story/1... @wsl-dme.bsky.social

- Also @bloomberg.com highlighted the risk of increasing droughts globally and how droughts have contributed to the devastating wildfires in California in the last days: www.bloomberg.com/news/article... @wslresearch.bsky.social @extremeswsl.bsky.social @wsl-dme.bsky.social

- 🌍 Mega-droughts are becoming more frequent and intense globally. Our study in Science www.science.org/doi/10.1126/... shows that multi-year droughts have significantly increased over the last 40 years with severe impacts @wslresearch.bsky.social @wsl-dme.bsky.social @extremeswsl.bsky.social (1/7) 🧵
