Jovita Neliupšienė
Ambassador of the European Union to the United States. For more news, follow @euintheus.bsky.social.
- Yesterday I hosted a lunch with @cfr.org to talk about trade, Ukraine, defence, energy, visas, and why I'm confident the EU-US partnership will endure. Our strong ties are necessary for business to thrive, and a strong economy allows us to tackle the challenges we face.
- At the @cnas.bsky.social National Security Conference. Europeans are already No. 1 customers of the US defence industry (35%) — their most important market. Clearly, there is no "Fortress Europe." In fact the EU must develop its own security architecture to bolster transatlantic collaboration.
- Thank you @cepa.org for the invite to speak at #SCSPAIExpo25, where government, academia, and industry are sharing critical insights on AI and emerging tech. Reinforcing EU competitiveness in this field is a top priority for @ec.europa.eu Here is how we are taking action. 👇
- 1. Increase access to computing capacity by building additional supercomputers. 2. Improve access to finance for startups. 3. Encourage all sectors in Europe to use AI. 4. Simplify EU rules. 5. Continue to invest in skills, high-quality connectivity, and improved access to data.
- It was great to meet AU Ambassador Hilda Suka-Mafudze following the EU-African Union Ministerial in Brussels last week. Together, our unions working toward a more peaceful and sustainable world.
- What a wonderful treat to host local students at the Delegation as part of the Embassy Adoption Program. Their curiosity about Europe shows they are already thinking like global citizens, and we need more of that! Through their studies, they are building a bridge between our two continents. 🌉🇪🇺
- Great meeting with the Global Business Alliance, which promotes an open economy & welcomes international companies to invest in the US. Naturally, we discussed current transatlantic economic and diplomatic issues that are affecting businesses on both sides of the Atlantic. Good to stay in touch.
- Successful startups drive innovation and sustainable growth, creating high-quality jobs, attracting investment, and reducing dependencies. Stronger businesses make for a stronger Europe.
- Another step toward #Readiness2030. We are that much closer toward helping Member States ramp up investments in key defence areas like air missile defence, drones, or strategic enablers. #ReArmEurope. My @defensenews.bsky.social op-ed has more: bit.ly/4k3FFGR
- Devastating news that members of our Washington diplomatic community have lost their lives to violence. We are shocked. Sending support and my deepest condolences to Ambassador Leiter, the embassy, and the larger Israeli community after such a heinous crime.
- Trade was the topic du jour while in Cincinnati yesterday. Both in a GWU webinar and at the EACC gala, I emphasized: The impact of tariffs will be felt acutely at the state and local levels. EU-Ohio ties are building blocks of our shared prosperity. Let's keep it that way.
- Fascinating visit to Ohio’s flagship public research university to meet Ohio State President Ted Carter. OSU has a long-standing research relationship with the EU. Academic cooperation builds lasting, people-first connections, so we encourage OSU students to explore our programs. Go Buckeyes!
- Reposted by Jovita NeliupšienėIn an op-ed for @militarytimes.bsky.social @defensenews.bsky.social, @euambus.bsky.social explains the EU's renewed commitment to investing in defense and lays out the historic, nearly one-trillion dollar plan (#Readiness2030) to buy new weapons and technological equipment. - Good meeting with Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine (+ pup Dolly). I appreciate his support for Ukraine, given Ohio's large Ukrainian diaspora. I also noted his concern over tariffs. The EU wants to avoid disruptions to our economies — Ohio exports over $12 billion annually to the EU. We want to work together.
- A pleasure to meet Oklahoma Governor Stitt last night. The EU has invested $22 billion in Oklahoma and received almost $3 billion in goods/services exports from the state. The EU wants a negotiated trade solution that protects and and further develops this partnership for decades to come.
- Hard to believe that over 3,000 people experienced our #EUOpenHouse today. This beautifully demonstrates a deep love of Europe and everything it offers to our American friends. Thank you for celebrating with us!
- #EUOpenHouse has officially begun! In addition to over 20 European embassies, be sure to stop by the EU Delegation to enjoy free food, make music, test your knowledge, and take photos. Will I see you?

- 75 years of the European Union. What an achievement for the European leaders who saw a better future for this continent than war and tragedy. I am so honoured to lead the EU Delegation to the US at this milestone, when strong EU-US relations have never been more important. Happy #EuropeDay to all!
- Reposted by Jovita NeliupšienėHappy Europe Day!
- The Transatlantic Bridge Awards embody everything great about the EU-US relationship: Americans and Europeans united in defense of freedom when the need has never been greater. Congratulations to our 2025 awardees: Sen. Jeanne Shaheen, Rep. Nathaniel Moran, Margaret Brennan, and Fred Hutchison!
- Through their work in the policymaking, journalism, and energy fields, these honorees have each championed a strong transatlantic relationship in powerful ways. I am grateful to have their support as the EU embarks on its next 75 years.
- What a great way to kick off the next several days of Europe Week, including Europe Day and culminating in our annual #EUOpenHouse. The bonds between Europeans and Americans remain strong. And that is a great reason for celebration!
- With #VEDay, we celebrate 40 years since President Ronald Reagan’s speech at @europarl.europa.eu, when he shared his belief in the United States as a global leader and partner for the democracies of Europe. That a stronger EU meant a stronger United States and vice versa. We remember.
- 80 years ago, the end of World War II changed Europe forever. Europeans are grateful to the American soldiers who helped bring an end to this terrible era. From these ashes, political leaders said "never again" and in 1950, announced plans for what would become the EU. #VEDay
- The only way forward. Strategic energy partnership with the US is more than important now.
- 🇪🇺 Girl power in the nation's capital. Glad to join @eudiplomacy.bsky.social Secretary General @eeas-secgen.bsky.social on her visit to Washington, including meetings with the White House, State Department, and on Capitol Hill.
- Special meeting of the EU Ambassadors, with participation from Ukraine, Norway, Switzerland, and Lichtenstein. We heard from @oksanamarkarova.bsky.social the latest on Russia’s war against her country, including possible pathways to peace. There can be no solution without Ukraine’s inclusion.
- Great meeting Gov. Ned Lamont while visiting Connecticut, one of the nation’s most highly educated, highly productive workforces. We are aligned in many ways: energy, education, healthcare, Ukraine — plus the 63K jobs supported by EU investment. May our ties continue to flourish!
- This year marks 19 years of our #EuroChallenge academic competition, when high school students become policymakers and come up with solutions to economic issues. I was lucky to attend my second-ever competition to crown the winner.
- Congratulations to all the teams, but especially to the winning school, Saint Peter’s Prep from New Jersey! Researching complex topics and presenting in front of experts is good life training. Thank you for championing the importance of a strong EU-US relationship.
- @collegeofeurope.bsky.social Rector Federica Mogherini needs no introduction to Washington. But it was still my pleasure to welcome her to the Residence as we celebrated the connections between COE and the United States, including several 🇺🇸 alum.
- A great group of American & European think tankers joined me to for dinner to discuss the Defence White Paper, a pillar of the EU's renewed approach to defence. On a warm spring evening, we answered questions, dispelled myths, and got valuable reactions from these sharp experts.
- The proposed plan would enable spending of over €800B ($908B) that would drive an investment surge in defence capabilities. This includes Ukraine. Out of the $155B made available, $53B is for military assistance. The reflects the responsibility of Europe to defend itself.
- Local art adds so much character and perspective to our lives. That is why welcoming these special pieces into the EU Residence was important to me. Thank you for the collaboration @thedcarts.bsky.social @mayorbowser.bsky.social. Learn more below.
- Shared the stage with Canadian Amb. Kirsten Hillman during @uschamber.bsky.social's Global Summit on charting the future. We both bring timely perspectives on navigating the rapidly changing global trade landscape. The EU seeks a negotiated solution that will allow us to remove any tariffs. (1/3)
- Thus, we are ready to engage expeditiously on: 🔹 0-for-0 reciprocal tariffs for all industrial goods; 🔹 addressing global overcapacity in strategic industrial sectors such as steel/aluminium; and 🔹 resilience of EU&US supply chains in semiconductors and pharmaceuticals. (2/3)
- The US exported $609 billion in goods and services to the EU in 2023. EU-headquartered companies have invested a total of $2.4 trillion in the United States and these investments support 3.4 million jobs. Clearly, we are better together. (3/3)
- Have you ever had a chance to shake the hand and wear the ring of a Super Bowl player? I just did in the great state of Utah. Thank you, Congressman Burgess Owen’s. He won the Super Bowl the year I was born.
- At the Hinckley Institute at University of Utah to tell the EU story: The EU believes in peace through strength because we have lived it. Free trade is a huge part of that. Trade agreements enhance prosperity & economic security, transform societies & show that democracy and rule of law can deliver.
- @brighamyoungu.bsky.social students have a global curiosity & desire to do good work in the world. At this defining moment in history, I hope they take this passion into post-university life. We all must play our part to ensure the EU-US relationship remains a force for peace, prosperity & justice.
- Surrounded by mountains, it was a stunning welcome to @brighamyoungu.bsky.social today. Grateful to President Shane Reese for BYU's work to educate students about Europe and the EU. It’s important that 🇺🇸 students can keep learning about the world why cooperation and collaboration are so important.

- Trump's tariff announcement is a major blow, not just to the world economy, but also to individual US states. With Sen. Marsha Blackburn I underscored that over 84K Tennessee jobs are supported by EU investment, with medical supplies as the biggest sector. Consumers cannot afford this.
- I appreciate Chairman Buchanan's long-time support of free trade. After all, 140,000+ Florida jobs are supported by $54.3 billion in EU investment. Tariffs are taxes that harm the prosperity of hardworking Floridians. The EU is seeking a positive economic agenda that prevents this.
- Great to meet Bertram Kawlath, President of VDMA. VDMA represents 3,600+ machinery & engineering companies worldwide. With VDMA North America, European engineering excellence drives growth and creates job across the US. Once again I heard loud and clear: US tariffs threaten this success story.
- Proud to witness my good friend @oksanamarkarova.bsky.social at today's event commemorating Ukrainian women throughout history, diplomacy & the global women's movement. We cannot ignore the unique injustices women face, especially those under Putin's aggression right now. The EU is by your side.
- “We win by having friends. We win by having strong alliances.” I couldn’t agree more, Raj. Thank you and Chris Kirchhoff for joining my latest book salon on your new project, “Unit X.” War technology is transforming before our eyes, but in the end, success is about people.

- Whenever I need a boost of inspiration, I turn to women. We get the job done! So it was very energizing to witness the International Women of Courage Awards today. Congratulations to the honored diplomats for displaying such courage, strength, and leadership in their roles. #IWOC2025

- Grateful to IMF MD Kristalina Georgieva for gathering this group of female Ambassadors. I am convinced that world politics needs strong women. The Bretton Woods institutions have been key to a long stretch of peace & prosperity since WW2. Only together we will be able to address today's challenges.
- Another good meeting with the White House Foreign Press Group. I appreciate being able to learn how they perceive events here in Washington. I underscored that the transatlantic relationship benefits both Europe and America: 3.4 million American jobs are supported by EU investment.
- It is a great honor to be at the historic Howard University for their Women Ambassadors Conference. Alongside other great female leaders, I shared my take on being in such a role during times of change. The diplomat’s role today is more dynamic and more essential than ever. (1/3)
- Whether confronting cyber threats or promoting peace, growing partnerships or responding to humanitarian crises, we are bridge-builders in a changing world. The EU-US partnership is a cornerstone of global stability, driving economic growth, innovation & millions of jobs. (2/3)
- One of my main objectives is to make people-to-people connections between Americans & Europeans. That's why it's so great to be here today. To all the students at Howard — future leaders and change makers — you play a vital role in strengthening EU-US ties. We need you. (3/3)
