With hindsight the appointment of Mandelson was an error of judgement (though many in the media didn't say so at the time). As far as we know in his short term as Ambassador he did a good job, so no harm done. Mandelson has questions to answer about what he did in 2009 but not what he did in 2024.
Feb 4, 2026 17:41I think that's right. It's obvious that Mandelson had the credentials for that job - leaving aside the fact that he has always been a dubious figure in Labour. Starmer took a risk appointing him that has backfired.
