- Reposted by Katy BrownWhen @zackpolanski.bsky.social launched his leadership bid for the Green Party on a platform of eco-populism, I felt hopeful about politics for the first time in a while. Does his project have the legs to take on the far right? I took a closer look at the evidence for my newsletter, Sower ⬇️

- Case in point...
- Not so much Reform making the political weather themselves as having it made for them. All this feeds into the hype, when really the gov. is actively choosing to pursue exclusionary policies. They're not forced to by the threat of Reform & the impact is being felt now www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

- Reposted by Katy BrownI published a piece in @uk.theconversation.com on Starmer's use of the term 'working people', his pitting of this demographic against 'non-working people', and what this can tell us about the chaos and confusion of his Labour government's first term. - New @cambup-polsci.cambridge.org article out in Journal of Race, Ethnicity, and Politics with @georgenewth.bsky.social and @aurelmondon.bsky.social: 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐔𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐅𝐚𝐫-𝐑𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐏𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐓𝐢𝐦𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐌𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐠 Short 🧵 on the key ideas 1/
- We first provide an overview of developments within far-right studies, covering ideas around: 💬 terminology 🌊 waves And we suggest that we need to reassess these conceptions, especially in light of recent developments. 2/
- While earlier the field was characterised by 'terminological chaos', it is now marked by relative uniformity. The Populist Radical Right (PRR) paradigm has become almost hegemonic, meaning it is rarely questioned. 3/
-
View full threadOverall, we hope these discussions around terminology, binaries and the wave metaphor can provoke further debate on these issues. We emphasise the critical importance of reflecting on the paradigms and explanations that we develop because they are not devoid of consequence. /10

- This Labour gov. never fails to reach new lows. Disgusted by these raids & videos released for plaudits. Despite the impact, focus is on threat of Reform. Obviously, their growth is v. concerning, but we've got far-right politics being enacted by gov. right now and people are facing violent effects
