- Reposted by Jolijn ErvenAnother #aDNA preprint! We recovered DNA from 7,000 year old (!) goat leather from Cueva de los Murciélagos - and see a genetic link with Bermeya goats today! Credit to Francisco Martínez-Sevilla for seeing me on Youtube(?!) + reaching out to collaborate - there's still value in the internet.
- Reposted by Jolijn ErvenOur paper in the PNAS Special Feature on 🐕 is out! We demonstrated the accuracy of imputing ancient canid genomes, looked at inbreeding levels over the past 10,000 years and found genomic regions resistant to ROH which were enriched for immunity and chemosensory genes. www.pnas.org/doi/10.1073/...
- Reposted by Jolijn ErvenI'll be presenting at @qubelfastofficial.bsky.social at the School of Biological Sciences, 2nd December, 1pm - please come along to hear about #aDNA, domestication, and disease!

- Very happy to see our pre-print on ancient Irish goat genetics on bioRxiv #aDNA #spiergorm I want to acknowledge this was only possible through the work of the late Dr. Judith Findlater, along with Prof. Eileen Murphy at @qubelfastofficial.bsky.social.

- 🐐 New preprint out with @gingerhowley.bsky.social The VarGoats Consortium and many others! We explore how genotype imputation can enhance low-coverage ancient goat/Capra🐐 genomes, shedding light on early domestication and herd management. www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1... #aDNA #Domestication
- By imputing ancient downsampled genomes utilizing the VarGoats dataset (www.goatgenome.org/vargoats.html), we achieved high concordance at 0.5× coverage for common variants.
- 📊 Insights into early goat domestication: Analyzing 36 previously published ancient goat genomes, we observed that runs-of-homozygosity (ROH) increased with distance from the Zagros Mountains during the Neolithic, suggesting effects from the initial dispersal of managed herds. #Neolithic #Goats

View full threadOur results demonstrate that genotype imputation is a valuable tool for maximizing information from low-coverage goat palaeogenomes. This approach offers new opportunities to investigate the genetic impacts of early domestication and herd dispersal—directions we will be continuing to explore!

- Interested in human-pig-boar interactions? Read our new paper on human-pig-boar relationships in Neolithic Europe 🐷🐗🧬. www.pnas.org/doi/10.1073/...
- We found that during the Neolithic, pig management in Europe was highly variable. By integrating paleogenomics and zooarchaeology, we uncovered a commensal relationship between humans, pigs and wild boar at the Early Neolithic settlement of Swifterbant
