- If I were Mayor of Ottawa, I would drive the @octranspo.com management team to Westboro, dump them on a random side street and give them 1 hour to get back to City Hall using only a Presto card Whoever makes it back in time gets to keep their job
- The who's who of who's that, as T. Swift would say.
- I spent the weekend watching Christopher Guest movies because that's my favourite Catherine O'Hara. What's so beautiful and brilliant about those movies is that they tell stories of ridiculous people with insane aspirations, but it's all treated seriously and with kindness.
- This American Life this week is chilling. The quotidian horror of ICE marauding through American cities, told in real time through 911 calls. "But you're not currently being kidnapped, correct?" "No, but I could." "Okay, I hear you." www.thisamericanlife.org/880/what-is-...

- The decency, resourcefulness and bravery of regular people in this story made me tear up. Such a quietly spectacular story about the resistance in Minneapolis. www.theatlantic.com/politics/202...
- Good news, big guy, the cool musicians are finally writing songs for you!
- This story on the sad sagging of the U.S. military is such a fantastic read. Perfect combination of crackling writing skill and deep knowledge of the topic from Seth Harp. The sponsorship bit was my favourite - understated, devastating comedy. harpers.org/archive/2025...
- I know this is one of those things that can be deployed as a glib, knowing chirp, but is anyone going to do a serious story about the President's health, physical and cognitive? Sure seems relevant right now.

- I went through a phase of binge-watching Criminal Minds years ago because it was exciting but mindless. There would always be a point in the episode where the suspect would accelerate or spin off into chaos as he lost control, and they would say “He’s devolving.” Anyway, he’s devolving.
- Yesterday @perreaux.bsky.social informed me that Bonhomme SPEAKS, news that has changed my life in disturbing and difficult to articulate ways. I have avoided looking up video with his voice because everything I’m imagining is inevitably better/worse/insaner than the reality.

- I love my profession deeply, but some of them are not covering themselves in glory these days. If a mob boss draws a sharp blade languidly across your palm and says it would be a real shame for you to lose your pinky, your headline isn't "Godfather rules out hacking off finger to settle debt."
- Reposted by Shannon ProudfootAttn news commentators: Trump saying he could use force to obtain Greenland but won’t is not Trump saying he won’t use force to obtain Greenland. It is Trump using force as a threat to obtain Greenland. That is why he mentions it.
- If someone turned to you in a coffee shop and started talking to you like this, you would nod politely with a weak smile so you didn't hurt his feelings or spark his aggression, and then you would drain your cup, gather your things and walk out.
- Serious question: does Trump have a time limit at Davos? After yesterday’s extended and utterly nonsensical tour of the inside of his melting brain cavern in the briefing room, someone might want to have a trapdoor ready.

- Reposted by Shannon ProudfootFor non-German speakers: “Dear media, I can’t stand the headline "No agreement between the US and Denmark” any longer. If an armed man storms a bank, you don't run the headline: "Robber and cashier can't reach an agreement on money transfer." Stop framing imperial aggression as normal diplomacy.”
- Reposted by Shannon ProudfootI think the disconnect between Atlantic elites is that Americans think Donald Trump is a kid getting to drive a monster truck for Make A Wish and Europeans and Canadians think Donald Trump is the president of the United States.
