- Reposted by jamie ☺︎One thing I deeply appreciate about AMADEUS is it's one of the few films that accurately depicts the creative process (being clammy, pale, and sitting in your bed).
- Reposted by jamie ☺︎The "democratization" argument always ignores that people making art on the margins weren't asking for a plagiarism machine—they were asking for time, money, and access. AI companies solved the wrong problem because the right one doesn't make VCs billions.
- Reposted by jamie ☺︎I dream of having enough stability in our culture that anyone who wants to can pursue the arts, but the meaning comes from that pursuit, from translating human experiences through skills acquired over time. Art is labor, but it isn't just some commodity that can be pulped and reconstituted.
- Reposted by jamie ☺︎Every instance of "AI democratizes the arts, you're classist and ableist and a gatekeeper for trying to stop it" is a slap in the face to the literally centuries of poor, disabled people making art on the margins and a crass lie in service of a machine that strips down and regurgitates dreams
- Still working on a portfolio review deck, still trying not to dissociate Everything is at extreme levels of stupidity and yet.... I get to prove myself worthy of employment 🙃
- Reposted by jamie ☺︎As energy costs rise due to the rising energy use of AI, more and more ordinary people will likely die like this, and it’s inexcusable.
- Reposted by jamie ☺︎Over the past two weeks I've begun to realize that rich people only started funding chatbots once they could no longer email Jeffrey Epstein
- Job applications powered by hot chocolate, not ChatGPT
- I think this week I've encountered at least 12 different companies that offer the same agentic AI platform
- I emailed a store about an order with a confusing status and this was part of the (suspiciously fast) response: "The order was placed on February 1, 2026, and we see shipment activity with packages showing statuses such as "Failed Delivery" and "Success."' This is definitely AI right lol
- Reposted by jamie ☺︎the Barbara Kruger mural the chase is happening in front of reads: "WHO IS BEYOND THE LAW? WHO IS BOUGHT AND SOLD? WHO IS FREE TO CHOOSE? WHO DOES THE TIME? WHO FOLLOWS ORDERS? WHO SALUTES LONGEST? WHO PRAYS LOUDEST? WHO DIES FIRST? WHO LAUGHS LAST?"

- Reposted by jamie ☺︎The comms rep just had no ability to comprehend that AI takes in the information that already exists in the world and repackages it. Our reporting had yet to be published and therefore wasn't out in the world hadn't been ingested by any chatbot. And they just... believed the chatbot.
- Reposted by jamie ☺︎While reporting this, I had something happen that's never happened. A comms rep for one of the co's disputed my reporting and said what I was telling them was untrue because it was not in Grok, xAI's chatbot. I was looking directly at the files. And this person was using AI to challenge the truth.
- Epstein had many known connections to Silicon Valley CEOs, but less known was how he made money from those relationships. We did a deep dive into how he got dealflow in Silicon Valley, giving him shots to invest in Coinbase, Palantir, SpaceX and other companies. www.nytimes.com/2026/02/05/b...
- Something that trips me up as a designer job seeker is interviewing with companies that expect a lot in terms of measuring impact but admit that they themselves have little in place for doing so 🤷🏻♀️
- Reposted by jamie ☺︎cannot possibly convey how actually crazy-making it can feel, after spending 20 years monitoring all these orgs blaming sex workers and the internet for enabling a vast sex trafficking network, to now see Jeffery Epstein’s inbox

- Reposted by jamie ☺︎A major part of my job these days is sitting in meetings listening to Project Managers read out spreadsheets row-by-row. This may sound pointless. But it is important as then my designers and developers do not need to sit in meetings listening to Project Managers read out spreadsheets row-by-row.

- Meta now forcing all employees to use AI tools and tying it to employee performance, according to @theinformation.com. HR said "this is not an activity tracker—it’s an impact-evidence starter" That's a fun way to rebrand workplace surveillance.
- Reposted by jamie ☺︎Chat, is it good when your CEO spent billions of dollars to acquire the best AI talent in the world and your performance is reviewed by how much you've adopted your competitors' AI tooling?

- Tangential thought related to what I just posted: it seems like a result of the AI bubble is people in leadership positions showing the worst possible version of their selves
- I genuinely don't know if there's any good design managers anymore because it seems like being a manager is that meme with the guy and the stick, just poking at designers and trying to get them to prompt more
- Just to say that between c-suite folks nuking company culture to save face and their subordinates trying to keep everyone productive as the fire burns.. no one is happy and no one wins 🌈
- Accessing confidential information sounds pretty bad but I also don't understand how these companies think they can just disappear people without their coworkers noticing/wanting to know who was affected I don't understand why it has to be so secretive in the first place?
- I've been on both sides as the person who walked by an empty desk wondering why that person is missing as well as the person who suddenly vanished one day Not being able to even say a goodbye to people seems unnecessarily cruel to me
- I'll also say that this whole "shut up or gtfo" mentality is bad leadership 101 But if the plan is truly "employees will manage small armies of agents" then 🤷🏻♀️ good luck with that ig

- Reposted by jamie ☺︎Not to be too vulnerable on main, but I think what is really upsetting and ultimately hurtful to me about the Stancil stuff is that a lot of us (especially women) have put in a ton of work slowly, unglamorously trying to build the sorts of organizing frameworks that made his adventurism possible.

- Reposted by jamie ☺︎After his emails with Epstein were made public, Musk has made more promises to protect children than he ever made after Grok was found to be creating nonconsensual sexual material of children. Let that sink in, I guess.
- I have some design takes floating in the ether.. maybe I should just start writing things down as I think about them What a novel concept
- Job hunting has been very slow but so far there's a very "so this is how things are/how things are going to be, huh" feeling that ~inspires~ me I just don't know what I hope to achieve by sharing these thoughts I have very little power to change anything lol

- One month in 2026 done.. only 11 to go

- If you look up Bonnie's post on LinkedIn, there's literally hundreds of comments saying how no one wants AI slop on Pinterest.. Not to mention what she describes as their future vision for design is incredibly weird, creepy, nonsensical and makes no sense from a design perspective
- For the love of everything design: we can't throw away our principles for a semblance of job security Sycophancy in the form of "embracing" AI only gets you so far.. and then what do you actually have to show for it? What problem are you solving besides "I did a thing with AI"?
- Lastly: I need prominent voices in tech to stop peddling this idea that people can save themselves from layoffs If we want layoffs to stop we need to hold *companies* and their leadership accountable, not the people impacted
-
View full threadOK one more thing: She also says in the post she was working on AI features and by all accounts was doing what she was "supposed" to do Being vocal about the downsides/risks/etc is our responsibility as designers So.. again, let's not blame people for their former employer's shitty decisions
