Do you have a “Black character” or a “character who is Black”?
One is written with intention—given life, desires, and meaning informed by Blackness and allowed to be messy and human.
One is used to serve as aesthetics, artificial diversity, fetish fuel, or unchallenged validation of a White cast.
look at me I'm an artist that draws cute girls but all of the girls are pale as my wall but I'll have a single ambiguously brown girl character that's either excluded/in the background or overtly sexualized and more masculine than the other girls aren't I a good artist.
