Center for Electromicrobiology
No one had ever imagined the existence of cable bacteria: life based on internal electric wires. We aim to unravel how this unique form of life functions.
Check out the Electromicrobiology Conference 2025 conferences.au.dk/electromicrobiology…
- Our postdoc, @martasu.bsky.social, will, in her MSCA project, study the symbiotic relationship between cable bacteria and seagrasses, exploring how these microbes may improve plant health, mitigate toxic sulphides and support growth under nitrogen limitation via N₂ fixation. 🌱🔬
- 🔬Looking for a student project? We’re looking for students! 👉If you are interested in pursuing a project within electromicrobiology and cable bacteria, then you should check out our student projects on our webside, packed with project ideas. (Link in comment)
- Throwback to earlier this year🙌 A few months ago, we said goodbye to Nina, Léo & Lucas, who have since moved on to new and exciting opportunities. We’d like to take a moment to thank them once again for their great contributions and wish them all the best in their next chapters!🌟
- Congratulations to Associate Professor @ianpgm.bsky.social for receiving a Villum Experiment Grant of DKK 2.5 million for his project: AGAMBLE – Anaerobic Growth of Aerobic Methanotrophic Bacteria in Lake Environments🎉 We’re excited to see how this grant will lead to new insights and discoveries!🌿🔬

- 🔍 On the hunt for cable bacteria again! 🔍 Last week, most of the Ecology team at CEM: Mie, Lea, Ugo, @larspeternielsen.bsky.social & Andreas had a great day in the field at Norsminde Fjord and Følle Vig, exploring the population dynamic and activity of cable bacteria along our local coasts🔬🌿🌊
- Last week, Prof. @larspeternielsen.bsky.social was the opening speaker at the 20th Congress of the Argentinian Microbiological Society in Puerto Madryn, Patagonia🌎 Exciting to see cable bacteria joining electromicrobiology research in Argentina🔬👏We look forward to future collaborations with SAMIGE.
- Dissemination Artwork: Cross Section at Junction. Bringing together art and research is incredibly rewarding. We are privileged to have this beautiful piece on display. Created by Matilda Tjelldén, the work is inspired by our research - and in turn, we are deeply inspired by Matilda's art.
- Congrats to Mads Justesen for passing his PhD Part A exam at Aarhus University! 🎓 His talk on "Conductive Structures in Cable Bacteria" marks a big step forward in his research journey. ⚡🦠 #PhDLife #CableBacteria #Microbiology
