Watching videos of hoplite reenactors, I am struck by how many of them use the 'a-hoo' grunt from 300 or a 'huh huh huh' marching cadence, but none of them do the *actually attested* things of the "alale!" (ἀλαλή) battle-cry or singing a song (a παιᾶν).
Gotta do cool fake movie stuff, I guess.

Once spoke to a reenactor who claimed that hoplites probably didn't often use spears with the overhand grip you often see on Greek paintings, because his reenactment fights showed that the underarm grip was more practical.
He said artists had put that on vases so much only because it "looked cool".
