Peter King
Recently retired* after 44 years in sports media. Had a good run at Cincinnati Enquirer, Newsday, SI, ABC, CNN, HBO, The MMQB and NBC. Chuck the dog pictured. Working on a book about my 40 years covering the game. Stay tuned.
- Congrats to @dannyfunt.bsky.social on a good and important book: “Everybody Loses: The tumultuous rise of American sports gambling.” So many dangers, so well-reported by Danny.
- Sorry. Here is the link to my pod conversation with Jim. apple.co/4nkn4YO
- Weekly spot on “Let’s Go” pod with Jim Gray. Lots of praise for a certain former NYG QB. www.instagram.com/reel/DPAC-9G...
- Good luck to Gary Myers. It’s publication day for his “Brady vs. Belichick” book, an excellent look at this major football story of our time. www.amazon.com/Brady-vs-Bel...
- Here's my weekly pod conversation with Jim Gray for the "Let's Go" show. Great to be back talking football with Jim. podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/l...
- Good luck to my Cincinnati friend Jack Brennan on the publication of his book "Football Sissy." Took guts for him to come out and write it, and it is one heck of a story. www.amazon.com/Football-Sis...
- Proud of daughter Laura and the great work done by sfedfund.org for students who really need it. Help if you can. Thanks. www.sfchronicle.com/sf/article/c...
- Highly recommended. The man’s a genius. True genius. Master of the piano if there ever was one in the rock/pop world. Could treat wives better, tho. Great work by HBO. www.hbomax.com/shows/billy-...
- Tim Rooney died today. One of the best scouts I met in my 40 years covering the league. Crucial pro personnel confidant for Parcells in ‘80s for the Giants. Always kept a short list of top prospects in his back pocket so he could be ready to advise Parcells/George Young on best waiver guys. RIP Tim.
- CLEVELAND-Cool to be with my bro-in-law Lou and my old Ohio U pal Tony Grossi at Dodgers-Guards Tues night. Progressive Field rocks.
- One more Irsay note: He talked to me quite a few times about my column. We came in right around the same time, in the mid-80s. When I retired, I got a package in the mail from him. A nice letter, plus a football, painted like a game ball. It said: "LAST MAN STANDING." I appreciated that. RIP, Jimmy.
- RIP Jim Irsay. A very good human being. Consistent contributor to our annual Scouting Combine Tweetup in Indianapolis. May not sound like much. But in 2023, our beneficiary was Teachers Treasures, an Indy charity that allowed teachers to get $500 worth of school supplies per year per teacher, free.
- We raised 5K at our 2023 event. Irsay kicked in 10K more. With matching funds, that was a $225,000 night for TT. "We're a small nonprofit," one of their execs told me. "We are floored. Our teachers are used to spending $800 to $1,200 a year of their own money on their students. What a blessing."
- Kudos to @mikesilver.bsky.social for a great story from inside the Jags' draft/trade process. Packed with info you only get if you're there. As one who has embedded in these rooms, I know how hard it is. And to post by 10:30 pm ET, 2 hours post-drama, is phenomenal: www.nytimes.com/athletic/630...
- Excellent post Mike. Thanks for writing it.
- I opened Friday's PFT Live by addressing something not about football. The feedback was surprisingly positive. I wrote something about that issue tonight. If you're interested, here it is. If you're not, don't read it. Either way, have a good evening. www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootb...
- Steve, I knew him & greatly admired him. RIP to a man who shifted the paradigm on sports books from hagiographies to real things, warts and all. The Knight book stands with Ball Four as among the top sports works ever. John Feinstein set a standard for the rest of us to follow. A model for the ages.
- @peterking1.bsky.social How well did you know John Feinstein? He's roughly our age. A very talented writer.
- So proud of my wife, Ann King, for her writing and her tireless work in getting her novel published. It’s about a Catholic girl with a great North Star battling through a tough life. B&N, Bookshop.org, Amazon. You’ll love it. I certainly did and am only slightly prejudiced in the matter.
- We need to pay attention, Americans.
- So proud of @kalynkahler.bsky.social and the many generous NFL media experts for continuing the Scouting Combine tradition of media giving back to the community. You go, K-dog. And thanks to the @colts.bsky.social for their annual generous support. Please attend if you can. Thanks.
- RIP, Dick Jauron. In a cutthroat league, you were classy, always available, smart and so human. I only wish I got to tell you how much I admired you. What a legacy you leave.
- What a terrific story about the Eagles and their roots by @conororr.bsky.social www.si.com/nfl/philadel...
- I was at a screening for “The Buddy Way,” about the coaching career and personal life of Buddy Teevens, whose zeal for football safety is legend. He died in 2023. Worth your time on ESPN. x.com/omahaprod/st...

- Sad to hear of the passing of Greg Gumbel. Such a great pro, such a great person. Always he thought he was so good at making everyone in his booth or on his set better every day.
