London Friend
Since 1972, we’ve been supporting the health & wellbeing of our city’s LGBTQ+ community. We also run Antidote, the LGBTQ+ drug & alcohol project.
- Some of our amazing Antidote team attended and presented at today’s third and final London Chemsex Conference organised with @gmhc.bsky.social Thanks to everyone who attended. Lots of work still to do but there’s lots of energy too. The next conference will be coming in October 2026.
- New data released by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) looks for the first time at mortality analysed by sexual orientation and makes sobering reading. As we’ve long suspected lesbian, gay and bisexual (LGB+) people are more likely to take their own lives or die through alcohol or drug use.
- 📣 The Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs is calling for evidence on drug use in LGBT+ communities, including chemsex. This will help shape national policy and future services. If you have lived or professional experience share your thoughts here: www.gov.uk/government/c...
- We loved the opportunity to work with the brilliant team @thelovetankcic.bsky.social to produce these new harm reduction resources to support our work and peer outreach. Check them out here!
- Our recent research shows queer people want more accessible harm reduction information about club drugs. This new work in partnership with Antidote at @londonfriend.bsky.social is a step towards implementing the findings of our community-based research. www.thelovetank.info/news/sdc4all
- We spoke to the BBC's File On 4 Investigates as part of this new documentary about #chemsex available now on BBC Sounds. Our Antidote service offers support around drugs, alcohol and chemsex to LGBTQ+ people in London: londonfriend.org.uk/antidote/
- We’ve added our name to almost 300 other human rights organisations to oppose calls to leave the European Convention on Human Rights.
- Have you ever tied to get support around drugs, alcohol or chemsex? We’re running a short survey in partnership with @lgbthero.org.uk to better understand LGBTQ+ people’s experiences of seeking support. 📲 Take part - www.lgbthero.org.uk/chemsex-support-survey

- The EHRC has launched its consultation on its Code of Practice following the Supreme Court ruling on the definition of sex. We'll be taking time to read this carefully and discuss it with colleagues in the LGBTQ+ sector. You can respond until 30th June.
- It's very concerning to see the UK slip further down the @ilgaeurope.bsky.social rankings of countries by LGBTQ+ human rights when in 2015 we topped the list. The map shows clearly we are now a poorer outlier among western European neighbours.
- More time to properly scrutinise and respond to the consultation on the new statutory guidance is welcome but this contains some very concerning accounts of the actions behind the scenes at the EHRC to advocate for a position many believe is an incorrect interpretation of the Supreme Court ruling.

- There is a lot of information to digest from today's Supreme Court ruling on the definition of sex in the Equality Act. We'll be carefully discussing with sector colleagues to understand the true impact of the ruling. Solidarity with our trans service users, volunteers, staff and supporters today.
