- My wife and I just finished Tolkien's delightful "Farmer Giles of Ham" together. As you'd expect of Tolkien, it's beautifully written, a great adventure, and surprisingly funny. I really do love our time reading aloud to each other.
- I discovered Kyota Ko through his entertaining and deeply insightful social media posts about Japanese culture and history, and now I'm listening to the audiobook recording where he reads his book "Folk Tales of Japan." It's excellent (as is his reading) and full of fascinating lore and history.
- This is Filippo Bernardi, born in 1872 on my grandfather's side of the family. A poet & a priest, he published 8 books of poetry. This is a roundabout way of saying that it's not my fault that I ended up writing poetry. Like Michael Corleone in The Godfather, I simply inherited the family business.
- My recent tour of klezmer music got me thinking of Ukraine, immigration, and people's family stories, which meant I found myself thinking of this poem written by Joshua Seigal, which starts in Odessa. It's a remarkable piece.
- I've fallen into a klezmer rabbit hole. After last night and this morning's forays with David Krakauer (including his collaboration w/Kronos Quartet), I find myself listening to "Tanz! With Dave Tarras and the Musiker Brothers" And it all started b/c I'm reading "Thistlefoot" by Gennarose Nethercott
- And because I'm sure you're all on tenterhooks to learn about my next klezmer adventure, I'm now listening to "King of the Klezmer Clarinet" by Naftule Brandwin. I'm rather enjoying this little musical excursion, and I'm curious to see where it takes me next...
- The inevitable end result of all of this is going to be me diving into the history of klezmer music starting in Eastern Europe, stories of the "klezmorim," and likely some Ashkenazi folklore for good measure.
- The #wordoftheweek from @thetoypress.bsky.social is "Ooze," and how can you NOT have fun writing that into a poem? Here's mine. #poetry #poetrycommunity #kidlit
- Hello, here is your #wordoftheweek! #writingcommunity #writingforchildren #poetrycommunity #wordprompt
- This morning's musical adventure is a fascinating blend of klezmer jazz and hip hop. I don't think I've ever heard anything quite like it before, but I know I'll be listening to it again and again.
- This evening I'm sipping tea, reading post-Spanish Civil War poet Jaime Gil de Biedma, and listening to Edith Piaf. So, if you're wondering just HOW pretentious I'm behaving at the moment...it's the MOST pretentious.

- I'm currently reading Jaime Gil De Biedma's "If Only for a Moment (I'll Never Be Young Again). It's a remarkable collection of poetry, and it's got me curious to discover more of Spain's post-Civil War poets.
- This is who runs this account.
