- Have seen the cover for my upcoming book and I love it! Covers are SO important in the creation of a picture book, or any book for that matter. Anyway, back to work on a new kidlit sub, because that's how I roll! #kidlit #kidlitart #bookcovers
- Looking forward to reading Troy's new dog book! (And all these dog books look fun!) Woof!
- I try to keep up with the news of the world, but sometimes I just need to take a break. That's when I take time to paint or work on a new picture book submission. I live for beauty in art, literature & nature, as well as beautiful music & great films. Ugliness exists, but I choose beauty. #art
- Happy Groundhog Day! #GroundhogDay #Groundhog
- I'm enjoying my gargoyle kick! So is Mr. Robin! #Gargoyle #Gargoyles #Robin #EnglishRobin #Gouache #Art #Painting #Illustration #kidlitart
- I haven't introduced myself in a while. I'm Patricia -- an author/illustrator of children's and humour books. I also love to create paintings with gouache. Gnomes & foxes are a passion. I've been doing this creative gig as a career for about 23 yrs. Here's some of my books: #kidlit #kidlitart #books
- "Hey you idiots -- clean out the #@!!**%!! seed trays!
- As well as being obsessed with gnomes, I've also become obsessed with gargoyles! So much fun to paint. Can a gargoyle and a gnome be friends? #Gnome #Gnomes #Gargoyle #Gargoyles #Friendship #FolkloreSaturday #Gouache #Illustration #kidlitart
- Today is Squirrel Appreciation Day! I do love squirrels, especially in winter when they get so gosh darn chonky! #SquirrelAppreciationDay #Squirrel #Paintings #Art #Gouache
- It's International Penguin Day! Here's all my penguin books. Celebrate with a penguin! #InternationalPenguinDay #kidlit #kidlitart #Penguins #PenguinBooks
- Up all night with a diverticulitis attack. Exhausted. So just floating about today, trying to relax. Thought I'd share pages from one of my fave books. I learned a lot of great songs from The Fireside Book of Folk Songs, illustrated by Alice & Martin Provensen. This book is one of my treasures.
- Great conversation with @troystory.bsky.social got me inspired to create a new motto: "It's better to have subbed and lost, than never to have subbed at all." Heh. Thanks, Troy!
- Working on a new submission. It's funny how some book subs seem to take less time to create, while others lag on for years until they 'feel ready'. I have a bad habit of sending subs to soon, so am trying to take more time (even with the quicker ones). #kidlit #kidlitart #submissions #picturebooks
- Happiness is finally cleaning my super messy studio! I always seem to create an absolute disaster in my studio when I'm working on a project. Feels so good to start fresh with a clean area!
- Feeling a bit more motivated today -- finished an onlline interview associated with my next upcoming book. Getting excited! And back to work on my writing... #motivation #kidlit #kidlitart #mojo
- My motivation is still lagging. Finding it hard to get back into 'the swing of things' in the New Year. Anyone else experiencing this?
- Years ago I created a pic book about a penguin who hated the cold. So I'm always drawn to penguin stories, especially if it's about a penguin who hates the cold. I'm curious how others frame the story. Clive the Penguin is so charming & has that understated humour that I love. #kidlit #kidlitart
- Thinking about all the school visits I have done over the years. Once after performing The Pirate & Penguin play with my husband, one kid asked if he could try on our big purple pirate hat. We said yes, & guess what happened next? ALL the kids wanted to try on the hat! Over 30 kids. Bad move!
- My home life was not happy. I focused on everything arty to give me hope, strength, confidence. (Just because your parents are educated does not mean they can parent). But I could live in my cartoons & all the books that I loved. Which is why I prefer to create happy picture books instead of sad.
- I'm so grateful to be born at a time where these was so much great music, books, movies, art. Also grateful to be exposed to so much culture at home. My life has been about learning, creating, and learning some more. I've had my share of sorrow, but there's always been art to make things better.
- Oh goodness I hope so.
- New Year's resolution: I vow to reread the Freddy the Pig books this year.
- I do no understand this lemon pig thing. But then, there's a lot I don't understand.
- A collage of some of my paintings for 2025. I love winter, but I know the dark cold months of January & February can be brutal. But spring will be just around the corner! #Art #Paintings #Gouache #Create #joy
- Me & my hair would like to wish you a very Happy New Year. Here's to more art in the world and less crap. I know -- that's asking a lot these days...
- Here's another book that I've been enjoying. I discovered that I love Commonplace Books! Broken down into the four seasons, each section is chock-full of poems, recipes, and excerpts from much loved novels, like Walden, Emma, Anne of Green Gables and The Pickwick Papers. #CommonplaceBook #Seasons
- I'm really enjoying this book, Seasons of Wonder. I've been searching for more meaning in my life & this book is so inspiring. I love the idea of "making the ordinary sacred".
