Geopolitics. Proportional Representation. Housing. Urbanism. Land Value Taxes solve everything. Fight polarization. "Left" and "Right" are a mirage used to control you. Vancouverite. Father of two.

- What Trump is exposing now is how broken and polarized the American system is that things like these aren’t enough to move the needle. American political orthodoxy has always held that these types of comments were out of line, but it had never been tested until now. Turns out, it never mattered.
- Before recent trade tensions, China represented a roughly $4 billion export market for Canadian canola seed. With our new trade arrangement, tariffs are expected to drop about 70% on canola seed by March 1 — unlocking billions in business for Canada’s canola farmers.

- Ours? Absolutely. It should be reformed and opened up. We’re enriching a small cartel of fair farmers at the expense of the entire nation. We don’t even allow a competitive market amongst Canadians, let alone with our closest allies that share our standards.
- >North Korea having troops on the ground >>American tech companies shirking sanctions left and right >>>China providing a bunch of money to kill Ukrainians “But have you considered escalation?”
- China is now “bankrolling” Russia’s war in Ukraine providing “60 per cent” of the funds needed by Moscow to continue fighting. www.telegraph.co.uk/gift/da5539f...

- I am also curious about this, my guess is that they are using trade with Russia as an equivalent for bankrolling Russia.
- We gotta come up with a better system than “everything rests on whether these twelve billionnaires are nice”
- It exists, it’s called proportional representation. This encourages multiple parties to do what voters want, whereas policies passed by a two party system is completely uncorrelated with what the voters desire.
- Pierre Poilievre & Andrew Scheer - Liberals copying and pasting CONservative ideas. Those ideas are currently being held up in committee's by...wait for it....CONservatives. So even CONservatives don't believe in Pierre's ideas! #cdnpoli
- This also exposes how two-party systems work in practice: the only thing that matters is having your party in power, ideology is just field dressing to gain that power. We need proportional representation to stop this charade.

- I understand that there is a balance, but our dairy cartel contributes to the cost of living crisis (which is a source of serious political turmoil) as well as exacerbating trade difficulties with our closest allies in a time when allies are critical but becoming more scarce.

- NZ and Australian milk is also delicious AF (compared to Canadian milk).
- This goes both ways, though. There is a lot of work we should do to make the dairy market fairer for our close allies, as well. This is a huge source of friction in many of our trade deals, one that is quite unfair to everyday Canadian consumers.
- There is no good reason for us to keep Australia, New Zealand, and Europe out of our dairy market to the extent that we do now.
