- Reposted by Sophianeⵣ is Team Hoary🦇🦇A bat fell out of the eaves here and seemed a plump little kiwi fruit w no visible signs of injury. So we put the bat in the sun to warm up, in a higher spot. Flew off after a few minutes. Hopefully to find a cozy bat colony shelter. Interrupted hibernation? (yes yes we all know not to touch bats)

- feeling lost alone & hopeless at the prospect of being without AO3 for 15 hours? don’t despair- there’s another highly addictive website out there just waiting for you. it’s got heated rivalries. it’s got behavior: mating. and so much more. that’s right. it’s iNaturalist.
- that feeling when you get kudos on a fic? that’s when someone confirms your ID. big fan of tags? we got observation fields galore- you can even create your own. fandom discourse? wait until you see taxonomy discourse.
- are you worried that your expertise in queer smut won’t translate into hyperspecific species identification? don’t be! if you can tell the difference between a plant & a bird at least 50% of the time, chances are you can improve a general-level observation!
- so don’t delay- spend those 15 hours of AO3 downtime improving global scientific data & find a new fandom (I personally recommend the crayfish fandom, we’re a lot of fun, all 4 of us).
- My Twitter feed has become highly entertaining but ultimately unusable in the aftermath of Senegal winning #CAN2025. It’s literally all towel jokes, calls for the removal of Morocco from the continent, & people realizing for the first time how dedicated we Algerians are as haters.
- Like yeah, of course Algerians are going as close as possible to the Moroccan border to light off fireworks. Of course it looks like the Algerian team won instead of Senegal. If there’s one thing our country excels at, it’s pettiness in victory.

Their eyes are specially adapted to account for light refraction underwater, making them fearsome—but undeniably beautiful—hunters of crayfish."

- I finally found a photo of Socrates, the parvo puppy companion rat!
- My first job was supervising a parvo & distemper ward. We had so many puppies, all of whom were in critical socialization stages. Because parvo & distemper are so contagious/deadly, isolation was mandatory & enrichment/companionship was limited.
- Socrates was an elderly rat who was brought to the clinic to be euthanized when his owners couldn’t keep him. I offered to keep him, but he didn’t get along with the two adult rats I already had. But he loved my little dog.
-
View full threadHe was such a diligent nurse. He would groom the puppies, cuddle with them, & offer comfort through the hardest parts of their treatment. I highly recommend adopting a clinic rat for parvo puppies!
- I finally got this paper up on substack so anyone can access it! open.substack.com/pub/honkifur...
