- I'm as disappointed as you [gestures vaguely] are about Starmer, but it seems a lot less urgent that the Epstein scandal wrecks his career than that THE COUNTRY cuts links to the wannabe oligarchs (Thiel, Musk, Gates etc) in those docs, not to mention our own politicians (Farage, obv Mandelson).
- Reposted by Adrian ClarkThis feels like massive hyperbole. Was it deeply stupid and a huge failure of judgment to appoint Mandelson to, well, anything? Yes, thrice yes. Was it up there with the expenses scandal, or partygate, or Windrush, Owen Paterson, or Tulip Siddique's still murky source of money? I don't think so.

- With each daily revelation about the spread of Epstein's influence, I'm fully expecting to learn that he bribed half the local council, vetted applicants to the local Cats Protection shelter and ran the vape shop where Milletts used to be.
- A topical (RIP) update, but I recommend reading the whole fabulous thread
- I've long been intrigued by the story of Beatrice Harrison, the cellist who duetted with a nightingale on a 1924 BBC broadcast. But now I learn that Brigit Forsyth (herself a cellist) starred in a play based on the story. Love it when my interests converge: music, birds, Likely Lads

- Reposted by Adrian Clarkhonestly think we need a guerilla sticker campaign for these. 'This machine creates potholes'. 'This car kills 50% more pedestrians'. Slap it on their bumper

- Reposted by Adrian ClarkI am again reminded of the joke that the collective noun for two or more white dudes is a "podcast"
- Wow, never heard him that angry. It's impressive how he's so livid, but doesn't have to be beeped out, and actually manages to euphemise potential swears ("something unwanted in your pants")
- 5 female fronted bands you've seen live: Broadcast Stereolab The Raveonettes Fairport Convention [1] Cherry Bombz [2] [1] Only part of a gig, with Cathy Lesurf doing the Sandy songs [2] Included for reasons of teenage nostalgia. Basically half of Hanoi Rocks, plus Anita Chellemah from Toto Coelo

- For when you've run out of classic RKO screwball comedies on iPlayer, here's Fred Astaire playing the drums in his bedroom:
- Love the idea that we're all dressed impeccably as we sip our ersatz coffee, listen to the old blind chap playing Brahms melodies on his violin, and think sadly of Ze Old Country.
- @beerinwitsout.bsky.social Wow Kate, what about that for a half-time score? Crossing everything for Burton in the 2nd half (I do admittedly have an ulterior motive, as it means we're only one point of the lead now!)
- I urge you to spend part of a leisurely Saturday learning about a West End musical about a travelling executioner:
- Reposted by Adrian ClarkI love everything about this story, not least the care and interest shown by the lorry driver.

- Reposted by Adrian ClarkOn almost everything – fraud, polarisation, radicalisation, misinformation – evidence suggests that over 60s are in much more urgent need of online protection and education than teenagers. But that issue gets zero political attention, and is a total non-starter. Nothing good will come of it.
- This was a minor story on London news this morning - but suspect is a real cautionary (and alarming) tale of an older man getting radicalised online. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

- I particularly like the title track – a little bit of 'Another Green World' vibe.

- I've been spending a lot of time with this boxset recently, digesting a couple of sonatas at a time. Barenboim in his 20s. What a body of work. Can't imagine this Beethoven chap had much time to compose anything else.

- Richard Osman's House of Games.
- I am abreast of the news, but surely "Gorton and Denton" should really be a late 80s Aardman Animation series (unusually dark for them) for Channel 4, about two curmudgeonly old snails sitting on a wall, grumbling about all the people walking past?
- Disappointing. Yorkshire Tea (aka Taylor's) are closing their Terracycle recycling scheme for loose-leaf tea wrappers. Last day for sending a boxful is TODAY Unlike ground coffee bags, these ones can't go in the boxes at your supermarket (and neither can go in kerbside plastic recycling).
