- Happy #NationalHedgehogDay 🥺 This little Egyptian faience model of a hedgehog is from a tomb at Abydos, and was made around 1,500–1,300 BCE. Hedgehogs had a favourable reputation in ancient Egypt, and were often seen as a symbol of rebirth and renewal of life.

- We have stayed by the fire all day.
- January on the Sussex Downs can be trying with rain, cold, and wind. Today it was windy, very windy. Which is not ideal for Holmes bees. He was tying down his hives last night in anticipation.
- I'm fond of Japanese woodblock prints. This is lovely. The Prussian blue in the foreground makes Fuji stand out.
- Beautiful.
- Last night was the celebration of the birth of Robert Burns. Holmes and I lifted a wee dram in his honour.
- Refusing a King took a great deal of courage.
- An interesting pivot from pursuing a career as a naval officer to becoming a renowned artist.
- It certainly gives one variety from cold, wet, windy, and overcast.
- The traditional Bodleian Oath, which every reader is required to read aloud on seeking admission to the Bodleian Libraries.
- The weather has been vile today. Nothing for it but to stay by the fire with cups of tea.
- Such a deep colour.
- A familiar sight.
- Amazing detail and artistry.
- Lovely.
- A lovely place.
- Who knew there was such a thing, both book and Penguin Day.
- I do love a good map...but this one is not up to the standards I require.
- A good question.

- January on the Sussex Downs is often cold and wet, and this year is no exception. We are keeping warm and dry in front of our fire, and drinking copious amounts of tea.
- Oxford is always intriguing.
- Such a damp, cold day on the South Downs. Our fire and a cup of tea are necessities.

- Lovely photographs.
- Making the most of some recent winter light on the South Downs. These three photos show the rolling hills never disappoint when the sun eventually comes out. #sussex #southdowns
