From my experience from the demo and reading the reviews, the DQ7 remake is giving a similar vibe to all those 90s and aughts anime that got more "faithful" adaptations later on, like Shaman King or Tokyo Mew Mew
I'm not a DQ7 superfan and I'm not opposed to trimming things down, but it seems like the content that was cut was decided without consideration for tone and the moment to moment experience
Getting to the past feels uneventful in the remake because there's no buildup, no sense of mystery and history as you traverse the ruins
This segment was removed and replaced by nothing
In other changes that mess with the tone, for some reason the overworld in the past isn't very dark at all, even though the characters always talk about the darkness covering the island? Just compare it to the ps1 version
