- Excited that my Job Market Paper "Unequal Access: How Public Library Closures Affect Educational Performance" joint with Greg Gilpin is now available as a working paper: edworkingpapers.com/ai25-1140 💫
- Between 2008 and 2019, 766 public library outlets closed across the U.S., removing access to the valuable resources that public libraries offer. Library use decreases by 25-31 pp, and reading and math scores decline by 0.021 and 0.046 standard deviations within non-metro areas. 2/5
- Access to public libraries matters! Non-metro areas typically have fewer library branches per sq.m., and the closure of one can disproportionately affect vulnerable populations. Also, these areas often lack reliable public transportation, making accessing the next closest outlet more costly. 3/5
