As someone who often mutes friends who text too aggressively during polite hours (because why are you sending me 5-10 texts within a few minutes?), I would simply mute this "friend" forever.

I think it's more "If you don't answer my late-night texts even though you've told me you'll be sleeping, you're a bad friend" that is sending me into apoplexy
My phone is either on silent or in another room when I'm sleeping or don't want to talk to people. It's a huge benefit and anyone that texts me often knows this. Text me all you want - I'll get there when I get there. 🤷♀️
