- Lovely review by Neasa Mac Erlean of 'Myths and Lies of the Irish Revolution' in this weekend's Irish Times! 'A brave and intriguing book' for 'readers who see the study of history as an endless debate rather than as the narrative of interesting tales.' www.irishtimes.com/culture/book...?
- The National Monuments annual archaeology conference last weekend was a great success, congratulations to all involved! For those that couldn't make it, Howard Williams has written an excellent blog about it here: howardwilliamsblog.wordpress.com/2025/10/28/w...
- And yet another. President Higgins was kind enough to host the editorial team of a special edition of History Ireland ('The Split') for a very informed chat about our shared history. Here they are on the hallowed steps of the Áras.
- For the week that's in it, we're getting fiercely nostalgic about our President. Here is a photo of President Higgins with our author Patrick O'Sullivan Greene in the Áras and a copy of his book, 'Crowdfunding the Revolution.'

- Cover design now available for Colum Kenny's new book on the myths and lies of the Irish revolutionary period. Due for release this October. The cover image shows an archive photo of 'Sackville Street' in flames, the authenticity of which has long been in question. Which seems fitting.
- Minor medical incident at a conference in Dublin this weekend. The staff at @tcddublin.bsky.social and the ambulance people who stepped in were beyond brilliant. These people, honestly, are the best of humanity.

- The Nobel for Literature goes to ... Hungarian author László Krasznahorkai, 'for his compelling and visionary oeuvre that, in the midst of apocalyptic terror, reaffirms the power of art.' You might like to try 'A Mountain to the North, A Lake to The South, Paths to the West, A River to the East'.
- Our newest book has just arrived into the office, and it's a whopper! The wonderful 'At the Rising of the Moon', by Marc Mulholland, has landed, with a bang.
- This has been quite the week for good lives, sadly passed. We had the pleasure of dealing in small ways over the years with Martin Mansergh. His contribution to peace in Ireland is well established, but it's worth mentioning how pleasant he was, how politeness radiated from him. He will be missed.
- Very sorry to hear of the passing of Jilly Cooper. We spent some time in publishing in the Cotswolds where every second person either was or believed themselves to be a character from her novels. And it made their lives all the more exciting for it.

- For the first half of 2025, Bord Gáis Energy announced a €39 million profit, a slight decrease from the €50 million profit in the first half of 2024. Which they don't, presumably, regret.
- As we move into the colder months, Bord Gais Energy have announced an electricity prise rise of 13.5%, citing 'a continued increases in network charges, the higher cost of doing business and the impact of wholesale energy market pricing ...' which they 'regret'. 1 of 2
- Heritage Week starts tomorrow! This year there will be over 2,500 events around the country, so hopefully something there for everyone! Find your nearest or favourite event here: www.heritageweek.ie/event-listings
- The fake Sam Blake books are Obsidian Heart, another one about fairy romance / romantasy in London and, amusingly, a book on AI for small businesses.
- Our pal Vanessa O'Loughlin, of writing.ie and the chair of the Society of Authors, was in touch. She's a bestselling fiction author under the name Sam Blake. But 'someone' is fake-writing new books under her name, using her author bio, etc. The books are AI generated, and there's 3 of them. Nuts!
- 'This is not merely a good book; it really is a most excellent one.' - Ian d'Alton. www.irishcatholic.com/an-ancient-t... Wonderful review of 'Dalkey: An Illustrated History', by John Martin. Available now in all good bookshops!

- While Maureen Kennelly's resignation from the Arts Council was probably unavoidable, having worked with her over the years it's worth mentioning that she was an inspiring leader, among the finest of minds, and one of the great champions of the arts in this country.
- Nice piece on 'Clear Hold Build', by Gareth Prendergast in The Irish Times! Great to see. www.irishtimes.com/opinion/an-i...
