- So excited to announce this newly funded project 🎉 🌲 We want to understand relationships between forest structural diversity (not just species diversity!), #drought #resilience and timber quality using cutting edge remote sensing #LiDAR) and tree cores to look back in time at tree growth!
- Absolutely delighted to have secured funding through the Centre for Forest Protection and be collaborating with Royal Botanic Gardens Kew @rbgkew.bsky.social on this exciting research!
- Reposted by Tom Ovenden🌲 New R package: forestdata makes it easy to download forestry and land cover data from multiple sources (Copernicus, ESRI, EU-Trees4F, and more). Supports sf, SpatRaster, and tidy outputs. Explore it here: cidree.github.io/forestdata/ #rstats #rspatial #forestry #landcover

- Reposted by Tom OvendenNew in @sciencemagazine, a review on Scaling plant responses to heat (www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...). Increased temperature along with acute heat waves threaten the ability of terrestrial vegetation to act as a carbon sink, but predicting how plants will respond to heat is challenging.

Even generalist spp are often comprised of specialist individuals, but specialisation is often only studied across single traits which is limiting. #BOU2025 #ornithology #seabirds #ecology

- Delighted to have led this research and always great to see our science published! Check out this video, the paper and a data explorer we’ve built so that YOU can interactively explore the data and the results yourself! Thanks to the FR team and Forestry England for making this research possible🍁
- I’ve heard of this before but never actually seen it myself until this week - an old stump of a previously felled Momi fir (Abies firma) healed over but is still alive many years later - I’m guessing from roots which have grafted to other living trees below ground! Pretty cool! #forest
- Bit late I know but couldn’t not share these amazing Northern Lights photos on New Years Day! That has to be a good omen for the year right!?!?
- Final 2 days of an awesome 4 day cycle trip doing the Morray Gravel Triangle which links up the Speyside, Moray and Dava ways! No option but to ride through #StormDarragh 😂 - fortunately less intense than expected but my lord was it wet!
- 2 days down, 2 days to go! Love a beautiful winter #bikepacking adventure in Scotland!
- Another beautiful winter night in a #Scottish bothy - never seen so many red deer!
