- In order to navigate an uncertain world, we must make flexible predictions for maximizing rewards, minimizing punishments, and guiding future behavior. These predictions are most accurate, and feedback most useful, when our own actions are responsible for the consequences we receive.
- However, it is often impossible to know for certain whether we have control over the environment, so we must instead make inferences and form beliefs about our agency.

- Reposted by Sepehr RazaviMy father, Manès Sperber, told me a story that terribly resonnates today: In 1420, at a time of persecution known as the "Vienna Gesera", Jews were banned from the city. Many were killed. Others were placed on rudderless boats on the Danube River and left starving.

- His talk will highlight computational approaches for modeling social interactions in repeated settings. Generative Dynamical Systems (GDS) models, acting as digital twins, extract latent behavioral strategies from noisy data, predict interaction dynamics, and simulate novel interaction scenarios.
- Hidden Markov Models (HMMs) complement this by characterizing state-dependent strategies, capturing emotional and pro-social dispositions, and enabling adaptive agent design.
- Together, these frameworks enhance the understanding of social behavior, offering tools for behavioral prediction, intervention testing, and designing adaptive human facing AI agents, with applications in computational psychiatry and interactive systems.
