New Hampshire’s Consumer Advocate, defending the interests of residential ratepayers. Cystic Fibrosis dad who talks back to Big Pharma. A fast fish and also a loose fish.

- Thank you @goodlander.house.gov for speaking out about Eversource, its ridiculously high rates in New Hampshire, and the PUC's aquiescence. open.substack.com/pub/theloose...
- Yesterday was bad news for residential ratepayers thanks to the New Hampshire PUC. My latest blog post explains. theloosefish.substack.com/p/the-plot-t...
- So: The NH PUC just issued a two-sentence order dismissing our rehearing motion as "moot." You be the judge. The journey across town in Concord can be a drag but I do know how to find the New Hampshire Supreme Court.
- We are not rolling over and playing dead in the wake of the NHPUC's profoundly misguided resolution of last year's Eversource rate case. In fact the PUC's order issued on 12/31/26 raises a raft of new issues that must be fixed. www.oca.nh.gov/news-and-media/not-done-deal-yet

This long ago stopped being a matter of immigration enforcement. Instead, it's a campaign of organized brutality against the people of MN"

- A new blog, on the Substack platform, is just part of my reinvented media strategy for 2026. I hope to continue my work as a columnist as well. Here's a link and full explanation. open.substack.com/pub/theloose...
- The New Hampshire PUC just ended 2025 with a bang, by issuing a blockbuster order on rehearing in the Eversource electric rate case. 1/10
- I finally got to meet my daughter's boss, Maine Governor Janet Mills. It was a pleasure and an honor. Thanks Rose for letting your dad be your date at the Blaine House holiday party. Now I am off to Gov. Ayotte's holiday tea here in Concord.
- All I want for Christmas, and Chanukah, is for the Legislature to do something about bloated utility return on equity. If we are really in an affordability crisis, this is where to start. www.oca.nh.gov/news-and-media/if-legislature-wants-do-something-about-affordability-start-bill
- Crowdsource Q: Is it ok for me, as Consumer Advocate, to post my columns and other expressions of my opinion to the office web site, oca.nh.gov? As I explore a new home for my Power to the People column, I'm surprised by several suggestions that posting to the office web page would be improper.
- I met some fans of my column today. I didn’t have the heart to tell them that InDepthNH.org has decided to cancel the column, effective immediately. Should I try to marshal support for reversing this decision? Or just move on? I can, after all, run my musings on the office we site (OCA.nh.gov).
- How have I managed to avoid writing about nuclear power for this long? The wait is over; here's my latest column. www.oca.nh.gov/news-and-med...
- This is an important week in the history of the NH Office of the Consumer Advocate as a bill to "clip the wings" of me and my office is likely to get a favorable committee vote on Wednesday. indepthnh.org/2025/10/30/e...
- Great video, @hankgreen.bsky.social, but you're dreaming if you really think regulators typically give utilities a return on equity of "around 8 percent." I and my expert witnesses asked for a number that low recently and got ignored by my state's PUC.
- I did not realize until today what a cesspool THIS platform had become until I had the nerve to push back gently against the posts I was reading here that argued Janet Mills should not be allowed to run for Senate because she is too old. 1/3
