- Major news from our Special Collections and Archives! 📢 Our Head of Music, Prof Lisa Colton @lisacolton.bsky.social, identified that we hold the manuscript of Dame Ethel Smyth's Mass in D, which scholars thought was lost. It is now fully available on the Digital Heritage Lab: tinyurl.com/47ce8hkd
- Dame Ethel Smyth was a pioneering female composer and important figure in LGBTQ+ history. The score came to us from her friend Sir Adrian Boult, who was brought up in Liverpool. Smyth gave the manuscript to him as a gift to thank him for performing her Mass in 1924, which gave it more recognition.
