- Reposted by Steve GoldupThis week in Science, researchers report an artificial molecular motor that can twist a molecular thread to form a mechanically interlocked molecule. The approach creates opportunities to fabricate mechanically interlocked molecules with precise structural control. Learn more: scim.ag/40FboGP

- Honored to receive the #RSCPrizes Corday-Morgan Mid-Career Prize for Chemistry. Credit has to go to the hard work and creativity of many outstanding researchers over 10 years at 3 institutions (@qmul.bsky.social, @unisouthampton.bsky.social, @unibirmingham.bsky.social). Short🧵
- I say 10 years because Rob Bordoli’s synthesis of chiral rotaxanes appeared in 2014 (dx.doi.org/10.1021/ja41...), although seeds were planted in 2011 by Hicham Lahlali when he saw an unexpectedly complicated 1H NMR spectrum (doi.org/10.1002/anie...) - always watch for weird data 😜
- We have since made rotaxanes & catenanes stereoselectively (doi.org/10.1016/j.ch...), found new stereochemistry (doi.org/10.1038/s415...) & redefined mechanical stereochemistry theory (doi.org/10.1038/s415...). We even made a mechanically chiral catalyst (doi.org/10.1016/j.ch...

- Too kind sir. Always good to see our chemistry used in anger. And so elegantly. Congrats all!
- Awesome #ismsc2025 lecture from my @uobchemistry.bsky.social colleague @lewischemistry.bsky.social on controlling the formation of low symmetry cages by understanding subtle interactions. Beautiful science presented using beautiful slides (as ever)!
- Great to speak at the ISMSC in Kyoto but didn't quite leave enough time for questions (bad Steve🤨). If you have a question, find me at the dinner or message me here and I'll get back to you! If Qs are cool (and the ans is short), I'll post them here! AMA #ismsc2025
- Hello Hong Kong! Goodbye Hong Kong! Transferring through on my way to Japan. Visiting friends and collaborators in Tokyo and Nagasaki before heading to #ISMSC2027. Looking forward to 2 weeks of excellent science! 😁
- Just noticed the typo 😳 #ISMSC2025 not 2027. Not wishing my life away. Good reasons why I have that hashtag in my head!
